Just a few days to go and Frogboy brings us a few more tidbits in the Founder Vault. A few highlights * The "This is an Alpha" message is nice. Though for some god forsaken reason, despite a similar even more obnoxious warning, this has not made everyone playing DayZ and Planetary Annihilation any better. One can hope that GalCiv3 fans will heed this warning! * Some broad talk about how the tech tree. This will likely be a hot topic of debate in the Alpha! * Apparently
The solution is that big empires should have internal problems that smaller factions don't have. Corruption on planets far from the capital, rebels from defeated factions, attempted military coups, etc. This would also give you a chance to catch up if you're lagging behind another player because his home system was close to a a green resource or whatever. .
Civ4 had corruption and by

I intend to skip school, need to know when to set my alarm for
Look skipping school is not cool. Here's what I do since I usually ahve to be at work for these kinds of situations 1) Have some way to remote into your PC, something like TeamViewer works great 2) Lurk on the forums until the alpha is live 3) Log in

This is a problem in many strategy games. "Solutions" to this problem are difficult and controversial Shogun2 has "Realm Divide" which effectively made the game 'gang up on you' after you reach a certain threshold EU4 has mechanics that effectively make it impossible to conquer the world Civ4 had 'corruption' which tried to control gigantic sprawing empires The problem mostly that these mechanics feel like 'rubber bandin
Will the elite founders editions be sold after march 27 ? My dad was wondering? DARCA
Stardock has indicated that they'll give some pretty advance notice before things 'disappear'. Given that a good week or so was given for the 'standard' edition pre-order thing was removed, I'd assume that when the elite founder goes away we'll get some notification.

Well GalCiv3 is supposed to be a lot more modable given that 'most' stuff will be XML based and thus editable. Hopefully someone will be able to use that infrastructure to give you the "Star Trek Mod" you desire.
Steams servers and steamworks boosts the AI by enhancing its inteligence and learning tactics players use and building ships that they have designed for factions. It also has 1 vs 1 multiplayer.
Steamworks doesn't really allow you to track that kind of information from the statistics point of view. You can do int/float/average values but there's no real way as far as I understand that you can pull the build q
Game stores need to switch to a model of selling more digital downloads. Maybe have a card that you can later trade in for money rather than a disc. That card then gets scanned and the product deactivated (but not deleted so you can buy one cheaper later on) from your account.
You can already buy 'digital' versions of Blizzard titles in Gamestop. You basically just buy a 'card' from which you get Diablo3 or

We won't likely see this level of Steamworks integration in the alpha but the new "Turn Notification" feature is something I hope is at least being considered for future implementation. Here are some screenshots from one of the few games I know of that uses this feature Frozen Synapse http://steamcommunity.com/app/98200/discussions/0/558747287635638854/#c558747922637084173</
Also, "fun" is kind of subjective anyway. Look at that tactical combat thread if you want a concrete example.
True but at the end of the day 'fun' is what people want out of game. There's no formula for it. There's no API for it. There's no middleware for it. There's no design document for it. There's no 'checklist' for it. You play it and it's eitehr fun or it's not. You can have a

There are definitely some 'configurations' that are only possible in 3D. For example modelling a dense 'core' galaxy, with the outer parts ofthe galaxy being less dense. The main issues are that as humans we are actually pretty bad at visualizing in 3D. We don't even like verticality, which is why the upper shelf in retail is called a 'retail death sentence'. Or why popular toys and candy is always lower, eye level with children. Nothing we do actua

I'd like to see a 'break even' envelope on the wheel. The idea being is that functionally 'money' is the real driver as to how your economy can go. Thus visually understanding how the sliders would cause you to either go into the black, or the red, would be useful. It would give users a real visual representation of how far you can 'push' the economy before going into the red.
Isn't the point of being good doing something because it is the right thing and not for some reward?
Even most 'morality' systems have tangible benefits for doing both the 'good' or 'bad' paths. The issue most people have is that the 'tangible' benefits for beign good seem to not benefit the player vs being bad.

The problem is its hard to define a 'good mechanic' in broad terms. A mechanic that works in A, may not work in game B. Even in any game, each mechanic needs to be tweaked and adjusted. You never come up with the magic right off the bat. It's an iterative process. ANd it's also hard to tell the difference between 1) This mechanic is sound we just need to find the sweet spot or 2) This mechanic is fundamentally broken and can't be fixe

@Admiral I think you're basing it too much on one screenshot. You can easily flip that choice such that the benefits are the opposite.
Don't get me wrong, I love the series and want you guys to take as much time as needed to make the best game possible, but damn, still over a year away, seriously? I thought this would be a mid-2014 release. I know Stardock isn't that big of a company and yet you're devoting resources to prototyping SIX games at the same time? To me that makes no sense. Not even the huge "AAA" studios do

I would like to hear a contrasts and compare.
Star Control is more of a 'ship RPG' kind of thing if that makes sense? SC2 is definietly worth taking a look at if you can get it on GOG. SC2 has a similar kind of funny/dark humor that GC2 does as well
More the opposite. The more competition the alpha has, the better. We only want the most committed fans to participate in the alpha. It decreases the odds of people demanding we have a real time mode or a first person mode or what have you.
