That works too, but I feel a little dumb moving the mouse over and wiggling the scroll wheel back and forth when I want to move a couple of screens over.
Once you go black, you never go back! Or something like that.
Having come off of a recent non-galactic civ kick, I have to say I miss a couple of their interface features. Being able to pan by moving the mouse past the edge of the screen rather than dragging would be hugely appreciated, as would the ability to move a unit even after you've pressed 'pass' to put them idle for the turn. I'm hoping that the movement point loss is just a temporary implementation of the command, otherwise that's go

You guys suck You know you want it
Yo. The title is fairly self-explanatory; I would like if we could play the game with no AI opponents, barring anomalies and events. This way we could just peacefully build and experience the galaxy alone, as opposed to jostling with the enemy. It's pretty much just an empire builder at that point, but not enough games let you do this. Anyone else have this desire?
The legality of it hasn't been challenged in court. Mostly because...who's going to sue over this? Really?
A friend of mine was sued over accidentally spilling coffee on a woman's purse and ruining some 'family heirlooms'. Suing over this would be trivial in today's litigious society. :D
Well... isn't that basically a legal scam? The names aren't official to the IAU, and barring a few outlying exceptions with planets (Bellerophon, Osiris, Zarmina) they don't give extrasolar objects proper names.
everything that involves wormholes/timetravel/FTL in current science involves something like negative mass, negative gravity, infinite energy or some other exotic resource that, which at this point is really not even close to being able to being tested in any way.
All of those things exist. but we don't know how to make them in significant amounts; Negative energy (and by ex
This discussion started of with Liquid Sky's comment about fighters in a realistic/hard setting. Fighters in scifi are the coolest thing ever, but in a hard/realistic setting they just don't work.

I wrote about half of my response to this post until Google Chrome decided it had enough and closed. So I'll just boil the argument for space fighters to the bare bones: 1. We like things that go fast. 2. We like things that go "Pew, Pew" 3. Something that goes fast and goes "Pew, Pew" is therefore good. 4. Ergo, space fighters are feasible.
wireless power transfer has a whole slew of problems with it, if its a omnidirectional power field its power will drop off with the cube of the distance. at which point your better off using that power for a big canon. If its a directed/beam power transfer, the fighter cant be more then a few lightseconds from the carrier before the beam not hitting the craft becomes a serious problem because the carrier cant predict where the craft is
don;t have much time right now, but yes it would be a hard setting. basically, anything a fighter does, a missile can do better. another example is that a missile doesn't need to make a 2 way trip, which means that if it has the same mass/fuel as a figher, it can use 4x more fuel on range/evasive maneuvers then a fighter can, who would need that fuel to return to the carrier.
That w
As much as I hope this becomes true, I think it will require more than an increase in intelligence. Human nature itself will need to be modified.
Who knows? Maybe with a technology singularity and the disappearance of ignorance and inequality things will work out for the best. Or we'll destroy the Earth or something. One of those two.
This has been wanted for a very long time by a large number of people,. hopefully they do it. I just want to be able to liberate a previously-conquered world and return it to its rightful owners for a diplomacy bonus. That would be cool.
