Why not both? All of my big-map civilizations are always somewhat largr, and very heavily developed. You shouldn't consider the two concepts of "Wide" and "Tall" as mutually-exclusive, but as two extremes on a scale.
If Stardock eventually adds feature about unhabitable planets, I would not mind mining colonies on some planets, and Sensor and supply outposts like in Moo2 could be nice too. Gives you a cheap way to extend your range. And monitor what is going on. They could be built on planets with constructors instead of colony ships and maybe upgraded just like Starbases. They would still be succeptible to influence conversion.
It would be pretty interesting, in my opinion, if 'terraforming' in the series took on a new meaning beyond "Make moar tiles". I would like if we were permitted to settle & build upon a 'type' of dead planet; basically ones that are in the star's habitable zone, lukewarm and relatively hospitable (perhaps 10-15% of all dead planets?). From there, we could build "Terraforming Centres" or something along those lines that would introduce life, water and the necess
I like your ideas, but I prefer what the devs have already said; there should never be a completely off-limits kind of planet.
I would like a minimum of eight, as that would allow us to use every base race in the game and have more interesting scenarios. There's no reason aside from a technical one to not include more.
I hope Stardock is taking note of this suggestion; this would really improve the game!
Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree! I just loathe finding stars with no habitable planets
I'm personally R/G colourblind, and I have no problems whatsoever. Just look at the production icons (The hammer, the credit pile and the flask) instead of the colours. I'd like the production wheel to stay, but I would like it to have more friction and be harder to move, which would make being precise much easier.

Thank you for restoring my precious and irreplaceable cynicism and defeatism! Can't go too long without those :D
This also has precedent; remember the modding tools in Twilight of the Arnor that let you edit maps, scenarios, tech trees, ship components and improvements? Something like that, perhaps with some more intuitive interfaces, would be ideal.
Being that Windows 9 is on the horizon, I doubt they would support Windows 7. It would be a good motivator to get people on the latest OS.
Because that's always gone so well, right? :P
An expansion that added lots of user-friendly modding tools would be terrific. Even better would be if this was in the base game! :D
That would magically assume the MS actually cares about its customers and not pushing the utter debacle that is Windows 8/8.1 Note that 1) DX10 was only made available to Vista, not XP 2) DX11.2 is already Windows 8.1 ONLY Note that MS has not actually said if they will support Win7, which to me more or less signals that they're not going to bother. Otherwise they would have come out and said so
Considering the odds of MS supporting DX12 on Win7 is basically zero DX12 will be as much a tech dead end as DX10 was
Considering Windows 7 maintains 60% market share compared to ~25% to 8/8.1, as well as being used by businesses almost 100% of the time, it would be shockingly stupid for Microsoft to not support it.

My main concern is that the bonus icons in the alpha don't match up with GCII's icons and their bonuses. I consistently place factories and research stations on the wrong icons.
The thought of a 9-foot Drengin sitting on a toilet with a news paper, snarling and bearing teeth at his constipation makes me keel over. Seriously, envision it, it's pretty hilarious
I was playing multiplayer with DARCA, with myself being host, and his ship strayed too close to my defender. I clicked the button to attack, confirmed, and nothing happened, followed by CTD with no error message. DARCA was also forced to do a hard restart of his computer. I'll be submitting a ticket to Stardock properly in a minute. Debug.err (Brace yourselves, this is a long one): Debug Message: Version 0.0.2.0, last updated on: 04-03-2014 18:29 Debug
I like the alpha, but without diplomacy/the shipyard/big maps, the game is really only a shadow of what it could be. The final release can't come soon enough! :D
