I ordered from Gamestop, how am I going to actually get the theme manager? I thought I would get an e-mail but I haven't received one yet.

I'm not downloading the game but... I imagine that their installer is smart enough to just give you the latest files of everything and not to download a v1.0 exe then download a v1.1 exe. It probably skips the older version entirely. Of course, I'm just spouting off and don't really know... :notsure:
30 here!
Great AAR! I know a lot of people want to be able to win the game without (at least declaring) war and this is a great example of how it could be done! :CONGRAT:
I'm starting to really get excited for this game, could some Beta testers post something - anything! I'd love to hear some war stories, I'm always amazed how eloquent some people are at describing their games on boards like this one. It's always makes some great reading! Even stuff like favorite starbase configurations, research paths, favorite ships, etc...
Do I know which AI's move after me and in what order since that can be important? For example, I would like to know that my AI ally is moving his ships in to protect my starbase before my enemy's turn. The way the AI is described, it seems like you finish your move then "blink" it's your next turn.
Is this game I-Go-You-Go or is it We-Go? I believe based on what I've read it's the former but I'm not 100% sure since the AI is calculating most of it's moves during my turn.

The bonus pack size is about 10Meg (Frogboy told me this in another thread). As far as archiving it, I'm unsure, I've seen threads that say it *may* be possible, but I can't recall that being confirmed. 10Meg isn't that large (even on 56K, which I have). I would like to be able to archive it also, but I understand their concern for piracy.
I only wish the free shipping could be upgraded. Most stores allow you to upgrade and pay the difference. I tried to get 2nd day air for a few dollars more but it makes you pay the full amount if you upgrade. Too bad, I have to wait a few more days. At least Gamestop is very close to my house so it should be 3 days. :)
I bought SUDG to help with the wait for GalCiv and I'm having a blast. If your looking for a 4X lite game with focus on research, ship building and ship combat, it's a great game. If you're looking for the typical 4X, this aint it. There is a demo you can try and I think it's fairly small. My biggest complaint is that the diplomacy is very dry. I almost wish I could turn it off and just do a free for all.
You can download it immediately (as in the day of release) and it's free.
I ordered the game through gamestop and unfortunately, my frugal side of my brain took over and I went with the standard 3-5 day free shipping (they wouldn't apply the discount to overnight or second day air). So I won't actually have the game until at least 3 days after release (although gamestop (one of them at least) is located in the same state as me so I'm hopeful of getting it earlier). I'll only be downloading the bonus pack through my wimpy 56K modem so it's not too big of a deal. I'll m
That reasonable for a 56K download, thanks! :) I was fearing a 50+ Meg download from all the goodies you guys are talking about. :)
For me, GalCiv's main selling point is going strictly SP with unique AI's for each race. I want to start a game with prejudices against certain races from previous games. To me that gives it TONS of personality. :) I don't want the races to be sterile and react the same as each other. The only improvement I would make to GalCiv would be allowing the player to pick any race to play. I know you can customize quite a bit but there is still something fun about being able to play so
I'm one of the few poor SOBs that is still on 56k so I'm curious on what the size of the bonus pack is and will the server support resumeable downloads. Waiting eagerly, KiloOhm
BoogieBac (where in the heck does that name come from? ;) )- I hope that you can do that because I'm a lowly 56ker (not by choice...) and I would hate to have to redownload if my OS goes south. Although XP has benn very kind to me so far.
There is an online manual under the encyclopedia tab. It's probably not 100% up to date but it's a good start. Also under that tab is a link to a nice fan site that has many of the techs in the game.
Freelancer looked like a nice idea, but initial reviews are mixed so I'm going to wait a bit on that one. I loved Privateer! :) Freya - DO you have a link to that? On the official site, I could only find updates that said 1.2, 1.3 (which I assume are for Starships Unlimited (original) since out of the box mine says "2.0". It's a nice game, the only thing that seems lacking is the interface is a little hard to get used to but after a few hours of play I think I've figured most of it out
Hiya, been lurking for a few months and preordered the game a few weeks ago (from gamestop, free shipping and the bonus windows skin pack thingy). While GalCiv sounds almost exactly like what I want I've been itching for a space conquest type game for a while so the final month was going to kill me, so I pulled out some old space conquest games (MOO2, IG2) but I wanted something new. Well, I stumbled across a game I had heard of, but never bothered looking into: Starships Unlimited: Di
