There is another bug in AP. When I doubleclick on a starbase to view it's properties, it show 0 attack and 11 defense points, while having all possible upgrades (attack should be 11, defense should be 50)! Seems that it puts the attack-points where the defense points should be. If I click on a starbase in the main-window, and view the starbase information in small lower left/middle box, it says AT: 0, DE: 11 + 50...
I didn't think starbases could attack... I've never had an AP version where I didn't have "string not found" for some alignments. I believe it to be something to do with the english.str files. If someone who doesn't have this problem could make both of their english.str available to me (I believe AP uses both its own and the GC english.str files) I' appreciate it. Thanks, Bill ~SDC~
I don't think this is a bug, it's just something that happens occasionally.
I think you're right. I had the same thing. If you read the little blurbs that pop up in the beginning of the game, it reads: Our scientists believe that Earth-like planets are much more likely to be in orbit of yellow stars... That means that the chances aren't 100% that they will have habitable planets. One thing, though... has anyone found habitable planets
I submitted successfully both alliance and conquest win games with current build. It must be a "bad" update on your end.
"Current" meaning rc.002? Bill ~SDC~
Well, I like the game a lot, and upon closer scrutiny, I found a lot of it has to do with the way Stardock supports it. I was a fan of Stardock from the eary days of GalCov for OS/2. Back then the support was pretty much exactly like it is now (sans fancy forums). People's suggestions made it into the game, and GalCiv's first embryonic minor race, the Ominorians, was a tribute to a particularly avid GalCiv player whose impact on the game is still felt today.
I'll save the observations on how shocked I am that this is a release candidate for somewhere else.
I'll second that... How is it that this can be a relase candidate with something like that? Is there a fix? Maybe a new english.str (for either GalCiv or AP)? Bill ~SDC~
So I have 1.49m003. First thing I noticed was that the GCloader draws in two separate locations when I try to drag it (pieces of each half is drawn at each location). Really weird, and annoying, but not really too big of a deal.
This oddity seems to only happen when you are clicking on text and drag it. Bill ~SDC~
Then I have no idea why I'm having this problem.
I believe the correct command is "galciv.exe w" and NOT "galciv.exe -w." :) Bill ~SDC~

I think the screen would be too small when playing huge galaxies - it's hard enough to see stuff on the minimap with a 17 inch LCD screen! ;) But maybe it could be limited to small galaxies, since I suppose you'd go through a few hundred batteries playing a huge map. ;) Bill ~SDC~
...I think that this exile is a form of slow death for empires. I myself might not have joined any empire had I not seen MW's post in the GF. Many players are missing out on the empire experience from not reading about it in the GF. I believe that new players now view the empire forum as something out of the mainstream, isolated away from Galciv itself.
This may be so, but the empires really brought this upon themselves by being utterly rude and without regard for any ki
Oh come on people! This is crazy. Let's talk about something interesting, like Quantum Foam or something.
You can talk about that in the "Quantum Foam" forum. ;) Bill ~SDC~
I removed the CustomMap key from my prefs.ini file and started a new game. I found that I still can not submit the result. Unfortunately, this workaround does not work.
Did you do all the other stuff, too? (Disable alliance victory, etc.?) ~SDC~
OK, no problem...
And, of course, every paragraph should be indented... and you shouldn't begin a sentence with "and." ;) Bill ~SDC~
Even so, it shouldn't be two words, which was the point Mr. Nand was trying to make.
Well, Mr Nand's point was somewhat diluted when he failed to realize his grammatical mistake, using "your" when he should have used "you're." ;) Hey, we can just go on and on with this... ;) Bill ~SDC~
Captain Jack... Truly words of wisdom, sounds like he should be rubbing shoulders with "Mr. Too Much Cologne Wearer!" :) Bill ~SDC~
Now if you'll excuse me, I have one final unistall to perform, and this is my last comment on the matter. Brad Wardell and co. can take my comments to heart or leave them on the cutting-room floor, but from now on I'm adopting a "show me" attitude toward any new such games: I won't buy another unless the box cover SHOWS ME that this sort of problem has been resolved. I'm weary of spending $50 on every new 4X game only to find it's no better at epic scale than the last one.
<br
Those of you complaining about not being able to order online shouldconsider yourselves blessed and leave it at that: the game isn't worth it.
I know you won't be responding to this posting because trolls like yourself hardly ever do, but I have to say that obviously they (who want to order online) obviously think it is worth it.
It's a common problem, I'm sure they'll fix it in the next update. For now, if you want to submit, I recommend you switch back to regular Galciv. It's a beta version, it's not supposed to work perfectly, discovering and fixing bugs is what beta testing is for.
The regular GalCiv (1.20) has its own set of problems. AP is supposed to be the proving grounds for fixes which will then be incorporated into GC. Bill ~SDC~
The new update with the fixed odzip.dll worked. Of course, being that you have to have a working odzip.dll to update SDC in the first place, I had to uninstall it, install the version of of drngin.net and then upgrade. Thanks for fixing the problem! Bill ~SDC~
Just a brief thought - given the games 'E' rating, is it appropriate to describe the Korx as 'evil bastards'?
Why not? Maybe they were all offspring born out of wedlock. Maybe that's why they're cranky. ;) Bill ~SDC~
This post is ALMOST in the wqrong place. You are asking for directions to the right place, which actually makes this post in the right place after all. Get it? :) Anyways, the forum you want is two doors to the right. Look for GC Strategies. :) Bill ~SDC~
Thanks! I appreciate the effort. :) Bill ~SDC~
