SDC Auto-updated and, upon reboot, got this message about Windows not being able to update the setup files. Now when I try to update AP it says that it can't load ODZIP.DLL and to reinstall SDC. Well I un/reinstalled SDC and still have that problem. Can anyone advise me on what to do now? Thanks! ~SDC~

Sorry, this is only vaguely related to the topic, but I cannot seem to post a new message. SDC autoupdated me, then upon reboot, said it couldn't update the setup files. Now I can't post (500 internal server error, maybe not my fault), nor can I update the AP beta (odzip.dll won't load). Tried un/reinstalling, same thing. Any ideas? (Tried posting thru metaverse, too.) Bill ~SDC~

Paquma: Hmmm, according to those numbers that you posted, it should have been a cakewalk to flip them. I don't understand why, but I do understand your frustration. Sorry I can't help you. I'm playing at Maso, too, so I don't think that's an issue. Bill ~SDC~
#55 by Citizen Paguma - 3/20/2004 10:48:17 AM Do I ever have a perfect example of how these changes just don't work. In my current game I have the ideal situation you might want to do a cultural attack. My home sector has 5 planets in 4 systems. There are 3 planets from other races in adjacent sectors. This seems like the ideal time to boost my culture to absorb the aliens on my doorstep. This would be be a perfect example of a non-cheesy use of a cultural attack right? Get a load of thi
Map Editor and/or game bug. I created a custom map that had two stars with habital plants in the same sector as my homeworld. When I started playing this map I naturally colonized the two star system. When I did this the game moved my capital to the star that was colonized last. So unless I created a second habital planet in my homeworld star system and colonized that planet last my capital was moved form my homeworld.
Hmmm, isn't that what usually happens with the AI's?<
How exactly do you take over a planet within a month? Perhaps if you outmatch the other side sufficiantly you should win that quickly but an evenly matched invasion should last anything up to a year. It occurs to me that Planetery invasions are stupidly basic and rushed looking. At the moment the soldiers just line up and fight until one side is utterly dead, boring. Whats needed is a turn-based combat system with thirty rounds of fighting for each month of the game and a courage bar repr

I thought that space occupied the first three physical dimensions (height, width, depth), and time occupies the fourth. One theory dictates that you can move along three axes, while being dragged along by one. In this case, we get dragged along the time axis, while being free to move about in the other three. That is why people speculate that you may be able to move freely through the time axis when falling into a black hole; the dominating direction would eventually become "towards the black
Just a thought, even if using gates is slower and more expensive that hyper-drive, could it not be a way of getting from point to point without crossing the intervening space, this could be very valuable if the intervening space were hostile.
And a very good thought, too. VERY interesting application. Liek, for instance, using it to send your mini freighters safely to their destination(s). Bill ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
Since it is all theoretical anyway, who really knows if a stargate would be faster or slower? I have not seen the technical specifications here, so I can't comment on it. However, keep in mind that you need a stargate at both ends in order for it to work at all. Therefore, hyperdrive is inherently faster because don't have to fly off to every corner of the galaxy at incredibly slow speed and then force the poor Torians to build the damn things for you!
I think the current implemtation goes beyond what it should though. It makes it so cultural attacks are almost impossible. Although you can still do it, the cost is so high it just doesn't make any sense, so it's virtually eliminated.
I never used the multiple starbase approach to flipping planets, so I haven't noticed anything different. My cultural attacks are still just as nasty. Bill ~SDC~
True Star Pilot, but it's still rather unrealistic to be able to load "unlimited" colonists into a starship, especially when you can do this at the start of the game, but only carry 1000 soldiers. I've felt for a while that colony ships should have a top limit too.
If you look at the movie that plays when you colonize your first planet, you'll see that colony ships are segmented. I guess they're like trains - you can attach as many cars as you want... Bill
According to the storyline of the game all the major races tore down their stargates. Having a means to teleport from one system to another could instantantly might sometimes be worth the price tag so why can't you build stargates in systems under
Because hyperdrive, according to the storyline, is faster than stargate transportation. I don't think this part of the story made it into the game's storyline, but the game is actually based on a whole universe that Brad devel
