What is all this focus on realism? It's a game. We play for fun. :) The reason many players complain about the waste of social, is that they'd rather not spend it, or have it spent on research or military. Realistically, it seems to me that the maintenence cost of a social product should already include the staff to run it. So you are only missing out on raw material. You cannot just law off all your factor workers for 5 years, then bring them back in 1 month had have the facto

Solitar, I disagree with you on almost all your points. #1) He started off insulting Star Dock. He didn't give them any respect. Star Dock is a class act. They've refunded people their money. Maybe MacTroll bought his game from a local business that don't take software refunds. But that was no reason for him to go tossing crap at Star Dock... not without first asking them for a refund. #2) His statement of "I'm an experienced computer gamer of 25 years, 20 exclusively in TBS co

One minor note: AP hasn't been "Released" yet. That means that it isn't a shipping product. You may have pre-ordered it, but you aren't entitled to play it until it is released. This is a beta... it's not the final, "complete" version of the game. That means that there could be "problems" doing it. Small distinction. If AP was a car, then the equivalent would be that the factory is letting you try out various "prototypes" to drive around at their facilities. It's not a "product

Hey, I choose my rhetoric carefully when I started this. :) As I said, I have no problems with the empires. But the agreement/compromise settled on by this community, that of the participating GalCiv posters, was to keep recruiting down to minimum. One bump to complete a story didn't bother me. But I had read repeated mention of "being segretated/cut off". I thought it would be a good time to bring up this hot topic again. If I offended you, my apologies. I just wanted people to air out

The segregation is due to the days where the entire first page and half the second was nothing *but* empire talk. It drowned out everything. As did all the "Come join Gross!" "No, join the Republic of Me!" "No, don't join them, they are all dumb doo-doo heads. Come join us!" instead of any real answers to people's questions. If they don't want to play by the rules, then delete the threads. Flat kill them. If the mods don't want to do that, at least close them. And any new empir

Captain Jack Sparrow, :CONGRAT: Fantastic post! macraig (Mark Craig): He's just pissed of that is personal life sucks so much, that his one hope of escape from it, entertainment from a game, just aggravated him. Or, as a 20+ year player of TBS games, he'd let his understanding of computer 4x games guide him, and not try to play the biggest the game offered. His complaints about other games "scaling" is a total red herhing. In MMORPGs, the scalability is having hundreds a

Seeing as some empire posters have gotten tired of not seeing their 100+ page threads not being on the top of the general forum, can we just cut this off at the base and move their threads to the empire forum, please? Otherwise, I think the other empires will soon feel that they need to compete/want to see their name in lights at the top, and we will have all that intra-empire talk back on the front of the forum. Seeing how long those threads are, I don't think most new visitors are going to wan

This thread needs to just be moved to the Empire forum, doesn't it? Seeing as Gross members are now bumping it to put it back on the top of the GENERAL forum... that means others will follow Gross's lead, and bump up their empire threads. Not much a point in having an Empire forum, is there?

Black_Shade, it sounds like AP needs to make an AUTOSAVE at the start of turn one for every scenario in the campaign. That would allow players who miss doing this the chance to to reload that scenario if they quit for dinner/have a power outage/want to replay a scenario. Sounds like a good idea to you?

Weyrleader, did you read CariElf's reply? You'll not be able to submit games that are played on custom maps, nor with alliance victory option on, and NOR with maps that have the word "none" in their map key. Also, you'll have to edit your prefs to get rid of that key she mentioned. (it's all in post #162 by her). Now, once you've done all that... and started a new game on a random map, and won, and tried to submit.. ;) I've been busy with other things this past week, so I haven't had a

Attrib1... I think that is by design. You can give them worlds, if you wanted. Then they are back in the game. Only, they won't get listed anymore in the diplo/races stat screen currently. So you have to click on their worlds or ships if you want to have a diplomatic chat with them, if you save them by giving them a world before the end of turn.

Do you have a save from the beginning of the scenario you want to replay? I had a mission 2 saved campaign game that showed up on my "Reset" menu, but I don't recall if it was generated by AP or I created it myself at the very beginning of Scenario #2.

There's a few odd behaviors with auto-survey. Including it avoiding anomolies when it is the only survey ship in the galaxy (and sometimes when it isn't). I haven't seen it ignore any OLD anomaly, but I have seen it repeatily ignore some of the NEW anomaly types, regardless of where they are located on the map. However, my favorite survey ship trick is leaving it on auto survey, and when all the anomolies have been harvested, using auto-pilot to send the ship to orbit one of my stars. W

I've been doing the same as "A Better Tomorrow". To keep the basic balance of the game's alignments. ;) Other then that, they act like the other Major races. If you set them to Evil, they bully and extorts lots, like any Evil civ. If you set them to Good, they aren't as quick to bully and extort, just like any other Good civ.

Bromoser, thanks for the comments. However, I had "Close" relations with the Alts for several turns without winning. So there is something else involved in its victory conditions. That or my set up is just messed up, I suppose. I had looked at it as a matter of time. Because with trade, you'll get to close relations with the Alts... if you are of Good alignment. I view it as a military matter because if I don't go straight for combat ships, I get my worlds invaded in a transpor

91 Replies 6,310 Views

So... the net effect is that you'd have the effect of holding back a few transports? After all, why should the new population be loyal to the old ways? So it's just a matter of the old aliens remembering the old ways. New aliens wouldn't care, cause that is just talk about how things were "back in the old country". So disloyalty goes down every turn as the old aliens die or are marginalized, and the new aliens are indoctrined in the new way of life. Or is there anything more to your pro

Scenario 2... I definately do not like it. Here's the constructive comments: I'm a builder. The scenario was really ticking me off, as it is purely a military problem. I tried several different game strategy/tactics. The fact that if you don't go straight for some form of serious ship tech, the Drath will have Transports attacking my worlds before I could build freighters. After several attempts, I decided to take a new tack: turn scenario 2 into scenario 1. That w
