My last game was a perfect example. I did a global swap from Constructors to Combat Transports when war broke out. Capital planets put out max loads. but I had a BUNCH of planets with awful loads. I had one with like 48 million, but lots with 1-4 billion. So when I invade with 15 ships thinking I have a huge army, it's really not that many troops. The other dumb thing is the transports don't reconfigure... like you'd think if you had 10 trans

I'm thinking Knight of the Old Republic seems like more fun for me. Been awhile since I played an MMORPG... I don't miss the "camp monster spawn for 6 hours" stuff... I hear there's lots of wasted time in SWG. True?
Well I'm glad I don't care that much about the Metaverse scores (hey, I was happy when I broke 25)... I played some games on painful just 'cause I knew they would score better than crippling. Crippling is more fun, that's where I stay. I can't even imagine how you guys play Maso. I know how the late-blooming Minor Civs feel, when they enter a world completely dominated by others and their doom is just months away - that's me on Maso.
Has anybody tried SWG? Any impressions? I ask here because GC is a game I actually really like (so if you like GC and also like SWG....) , and any SWG forum I go to seems to be at least partially filled with lobotomized fanboys. It's even worse than that Other Space Game's forums. ?
I have seen the AI in the process of building a terror star, but never seen one completed. I think it was in a game where I already had a TS. I haven't used one in forever, and I haven't seen the AI try for several patches. That's too bad, it would be a neat AI routine to see them trying to sneak one in.
I know that Metaverse isn't the first priority for the Devs, but the scores seems screwy. I can play a Medium size game at Painful without too much trouble. I'd say medium difficulty. I get 8-11k. A Crippling game on a medium map is VERY HARD for me. Eventually I come back and win. My crippling scores are usually LOWER than my Painful scores. I believe it's cause the AI beats me to trade goods and wonders all the time... (Do you get points if you b
#6 by Citizen b121587h I rarely ever use any of the lease options anymore. They are way too expensive. Cheaper to buy a trade good from the AI that makes it... usually I wait for eco boom if I can.
Why isn't there a score difference for Painful vs. Crippling? (or much of one) I normally play Medium size galaxies... and my last crippling game scored lower than my regular Painfuls.... I'm sticking with painfuls for awhile, there's more small ship combat.
Eye of the Universe is probably the one essential wonder... it's the only thing that makes me load game and buy if I'm beaten to it.
My strategy is a combination of both of the above Speed +1 PQ +5 (and pop+20) Lets you get to planets quicker, and lets you colonize 12+ planets and make them into at leat 15s.
I really wish neutral had its own technologies. I find myself selecting choices 'cause I want to get the special techs eventually, rather than "role-playing" what I'd do everytime. Neutral needs a unique tech or two... maybe something weaker... but SOMETHING. Otherwise I just start colonizing lousy planets eventually to switch. [Message Edited]
I'm pretty happy with 5 races. It's really more than 5, if you think about the minors. When I left godawful moo3 to buy Galciv, one thought that crossed my mind before buying it was "it's only five races.. moo has like 16 or something." One Galciv AI race is worth more than all 16.
There's too many things in the the game dependent on PQ, I don't think it would be a good idea to change it for the Yor, etc. Sometimes you see a really tempting planet you want to invade... why bother with a PQ 1? Or why not use mass drivers every time, it's not like you want to keep the PQ.
That's pretty neat. Yet another event I had never seen or heard of.
I lost my first game towards the end yesterday (always lose in the beginning)... Basically, war broke out and trade dried up... and I was spending WAY too much money on trade goods. You definitely can't lease like you used to... only essentials should be bought. My new strategy for things like Diplo Translators (that I never trade) is let somebody else build them, and then buy for cash... much cheaper.
I hope they let you rename the minors in a patch, sigh.
What are the new penalties? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I couldn't find anything.
I stopped using Tidal Disruptors when I wiped out about 3 capitals on a planet. Doesn't seem like many people are using the expanded invasion tactics from the library.
I turn off cultural victory. I still win by it (more or less), but it gets scored as military.
To all Elerian lovers: No longer have my moo2 CD (I Ebayed it as Moo3 got released thinking i'd never want it, muahaha) but you can just do a Google Image Search for Elerian and use those pics.... The quality isn't perfect, but I suspect the Moo2 cd files look the same.
Unfortunately all the new non-terrorist minors use the exact same graphic :( The symbols were confusing -- easier to remember who is who with the graphics switch files... too bad the Jarkians, Paradians, Fundies, etc all use the same face.
That's kinda a neat idea, destroying empty stars... no reason why you shouldn't be able to... though I'd think that by the time you could afford Tstars only junk stars would be left.
My one thought about ground combat was it's over too quick. But on huge invasions it takes a few seconds, maybe that's the point. Moo1 had them blasting? Can't remember... I know Moo2 did... [deletes mention of moo3 ground combat]
Still seems that most of the default invasions are too nasty to use. Tidal disruptors doesn't hurt PQ, but it wipes out basically every building... makes it like colonizing a fresh world. The others hurt PQ so much. I don't do the "1 transport with mass drivers and lose" thing, my personal opinion is it's too cheesy. Terror stars are a neat idea, but they are so ridiculously slow... when I was dependent on them, the wars would drag on forever.
Do you really wipe out everybody on the planet? I thought so, but that message about "setting up a provisional government" confuses me... that's what you'd do if there were survivors left. I hate loading transports, hate when they don't max load, hate having to rally new transports.... I spend lots of cash on invasions all the time when it saves lives -- that should be lost on the next invasion.
