I kept the Moo3 CDs for the time when it was patched... when the code patch finally came out I just deleted the game without ever trying the new stuff. It's sad, 'cause if it wasn't for the Moo3 forums I would never have heard of Galciv probably. I'm glad both games came out at the same time... I was really itching for a good TBS, and after being heartbroken with moo3.... Besides, I've replaced the Carinoids with the Elerian graphics.

I was curious what invasion tactics other people use? when I first got the game, I'd go for Tidal Disruptors unless it was the end game -- then Mass Drivers 'cause I didn't care about PQ. When the enemy had ridiculous population and defense, I'd use Terror Stars. Since I've gotten the expanded options from the library, I only ever seem to use Psi Attack and Xenomorph Invasion since they have very little PQ bonus (with PQ being so important in the game, hard for
Um, I haven't seen that bug... but almost always information warfare is useless.... the readout tells me I will attract 0 to 0 of the enemy, so what's the point? I have seen it with billions, but 80% of the time I checked it said 0 so I gave up on it. [Message Edited]
I haven't used any from Disputed Territories, I get the feeling some of them have big play balance changes.
I've played 1.5 games with the new patch. I moved down to painful to try it out. It seemed EASIER than ever. I was in first place the entire game, without ever building an offensive ship. I used to USS HERO to invade a couple planets right at the end.... my score was 11000 which is more than twice my best crippling score. Is the military power graph calculated differently now? One thing I noticed that I really liked... it's easier to play like the Dr
Most anything you find on this site is safe to use. Metaverse supposedly only looks for very unbalanced games. (although one of the library events gave me a good option for 110% influence increase... world's fair type event). Main problem with alot of the events is they're not as good as the originals... either in humor but especially in the cost/benefit value of the choices. (Note: present company excluded -- and I never made an event so who am I to talk)
The phoenix would *almost* be useful if it was the only truly cloaked ship.
I think I kinda like the new minors, they last for a good 15-20 turns... that's usually how long it takes for me to depete their cash selling trade goods. After that it's invasion time. My main complaint is that they all use the same graphic, all those images going unused.
I see no point in alliances other than going for the alliance win. My allies will not automatically help me in a war, I still have to bribe them. But I am drawn into their wars.
I have just played a little with the new patch But I'm going to have to restart already. I rush bought Diplo Translators (4th lease option), and I did my usual of colonizing 12+ planets. I have basically no income, and I notice I'm paying lots and lots in "leases." So either the lease options changed, or there's a huge penalty for colonizing lousy planets, or both.
Star Devil Thrull ------------------------------------ The Red ships seem a bit bigger.... I don't mind, really... I guess the red has an aura. Duglis ------------------------------------ Yeah, I was heartbroken you didn't make colonization events for the other 3 alien races! I won't even mention the minors. For sure there should be one that involes some kind of bonus for spray painting all the Drengin ships red (sensors or something). [
I'd like to see more pirates. Pirate starbases, Pirate fleets. What I see now is 1-3 random pirate ships that seem to be LOSING HITPOINTS automatically. They decide to ram themselves into my starbases in a blaze of glory.
I like this mod alot.. but is it just me or are the Red ships "chunky". Sometimes it seems they look "fat" to me compared to my memory of the green ones. Hey Duglis, how can you quit writing events before you have colonization events for the other 3 races? I was expecting to see an event choice that involved painting the Drengin ships from green to red!!! [Message Edited]
Be nice if there could be a setting for Random Event Frequency. I got wiped out a bunch of times when I first got the game, but I really miss them now... the universe seems uneventful.
Some people are too smart for their own good. --- Completely unrelated to that #33 Moo2 patched had a ship initiative option... it wasn't super-realistic, but the fastest ships moved first regardless of fleet... so the attacker didn't always wipe out the other guy. I like Galciv alot, but I can't even imagine what the fleet combat would be like if I tried. One ship at a time is unlike any movie or real-life combat example I can think of. But it's
You can't conquer a wonder? Arg... lots of times I use less destructive invasion options cause I know the Drengin have an Eyes of the Universe somewhere and I don't want to blow it up. I wiped out a couple capitals that way... well, even if it doesn't work with wonders... it's worth saving Capitals.
When I've joined alliances, most of the time my senate declares war on their enemies. When I'm at war and ally isn't, I still have to bRIBE them to attack. What good is it? almost No good unless you are going for alliance win.
If (when, actually) the civilization that makes the good gets wiped out, do you still get to keep it? [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
Arg, reinstalling what a pain. I guess I'll just resintall to a new directory and then overwrite with my graphics and library files.
You won't believe the e-mail i just got : "Dear Galcivver, It has come to my attention that you have downloaded the Angelina for Governor v 4. mod and are using the aforementioned files to replace the static marine with a baseball cap that comes with the game. Since you did not ask me for permission, I ask that you immediately cease and desist the use of my image and replace it with one of say, Xenia Seeberg. Preferably one with Xenia in
Duglis has a file but you'll have to ask him. If you want to do it yourself, it's pretty easy. Convert whatever picture you want to PCX format. Edit the picture and resize it to the same size The sizes vary, so what you do is like open Tradeimage_default (for example) and see what the X and Y sizes are... then change your new image to those sizes and rename it. Make sure new image is set to 256 colors. Voila, your images repace the flags.
I use leases all the time. Never for ships, always for trade goods and wonders. They only time I don't do it is if I have a really good planet that can make a trade good in less than 10 turns. I think of it as (for example, Galactic Stock Exchange) not just a bonus to my empire... but a bonus the AI won't get.
Loading transports is a real pain the @!#%$. The computer somehow assumes that I might possibly want to build a combat transport and spend money on invasion tactics, but not load every single available person onto it. I rarely have ultra-high population until endgame, and frequently have to manually load dozens of transports. (Yes, I can remember one "invasion" with about 6 ships that ended up having about 1 billion people total... that war didn't go well) The
How about a highest rank medal? The medal icons are just big enough that you could fit a 31 or a 29 or whatever inside. (Okay, make it a highest rank patch). Some of us don't ever expect to be #1.
Max Public - You can stay out of wars, but you need a strong defensive force. I frequently crank out Defenders, BattelAxes, BHammers just to deter the other civs. I know what you mean about other games where you can be non-military and win, but here you at least need to build a fleet to scare them off. The AI views weak militaries as easy pickings, maybe rightly so. "It seems that we miscalculated in our attempt to.... make your civilization become o
