Ok this should probably go in bug reports, but I thought it was pretty funny, so here goes. I had a stack of constructers that had movement left. I clicked the create starbase button, and added 6 modules. Then I hit cancel because I was going to move my stack further and create another starbase. After I hit cancel I didn't pay attention to what was selected and just clicked to move. Much to my surprise, the starbase floated out from under the stack of constructors! It was able to c

Whether for noble sounding ideals or geographic coincidence, people are drawn together into a single purpose: to figure out how to change the rules so that their bitmap appears closer to the navigation toolbar. A little bit more seriously though, even though my own empire would benefit from limiting membership, I am against this proposal. Empires are just a fun add-on to what is otherwise a single player game. An also, these are EMPIRES! They're supposed to be big. It isn't like tea

I definitely agree Ellestar. I think the danger of the starcraft/warcraft issue is less here because of the nature of the game. In this game, without explainations, it would be difficult from a few save games to really see what's going on.

Question. Is there any interest in creating a repository of game analysis? Maybe save games every couple years and a written discription of strategy and events. I know when I played Age of Empires II there was the ability to save a replay of a game, and many very good players made their replays available for download. That allowed less experienced/skilled players to watch their build order, troop deployment, etc and actually see the results. It was a great learning tool. This game

I believe there are reasons to give in to the demands at times. Here's the situation that I'm in right now: Drengin hate me and are nearby, Arceans are at war with me but far away, Torians are friendly, but weak and far away, and the Altarians are warm and nearby. I don't remember what the yor are, but they aren't a big player anyway. The altarians, drengin, and arceans all periodically demand tribute, but the demands are quite different. The drengin demand star systems, or thousa

Sergey, I'm now on 1.04, I just waited to finish the game on 1.035 that I had already started. It took me longer than any previous game (first masochistic, gigantic), but as soon as I completed that game I upgraded. I'm now in the middle of a huge crippling that I have good chances of winning (2 military resources, adjacent to altarian allies) but it is by no means certain. I have played and lost several crippling games in 1.04 but didn't complete the games so no post. If I win this game

Yeah, I started the game on 1.035 and I want to finish before I upgrade (not sure what would happen if I upgrade in the middle). I'll upgrade as soon as I finish (this weekend hopefully), and probably have to drop back down in difficulty (I barely stayed alive in the first half of this one).

Question. If I finish a game now on 1.035, will the score be calculated the new way or the old? Essentially I'm just curious if it would be better to go tech or military. (I'm in the middle of what looks like it's going to be my first maso win! Taking forever, giant map. It was one of the most fun games I've ever played on a TBS game.)

Brad, Please keep in mind that not everyone that enjoys the metaverse is on the offensive. I have always tried to be polite in my communication on this forum (as I generally am, online and off, and if I have failed, I apologize), but still want to make requests for things that would improve my enjoyment level. I got the feeling that my concerns on here were listened to, and I believe that is still the case. There are a few whose language about this issue has been particul

It sounds to me like scoring will be different in 1.04. Possibly, since the developers clearly read these forums regularly, the scoring may be changed to include a larger bonus for finishing quickly to offset the population points. That, I hope, will help the honest players better measure themselves against each other. I'm one of the people that really likes the metaverse (guess I'm a less-than-five-percenter). I have stated before that I would like to see improvements to the met

Upfront: I like the metaverse and submit every game that I win. I don't use any mods or cheese tactics except for turning off culture victory, taking over almost the whole galaxy and then going tech victory. I disagree with those that say the metaverse score doesn't mean anything. I pay attention to the scores on the metaverse. When I see posts about strategy from Staffa or RayChua I pay closer attention than I would from most others, almost entirely based on their metave

I agree with codemonkey in that I don't think good starting positions, or skill at colonizing early, should be punished. I think issue 3 can be easily solved by allowing tech victory for the aliens, but I'm against it currently because it would seem to cut the game short because of how time consuming military conquest is. I think beyond human and final frontier should cost substantially more and be untradeable if the AI is not allowed to win tech victory. The first issue i

I also haven't had problems with morale except on culture-flipped systems. There was also a time when the altarians took out 2 of my fully upgraded morale starbases within a few turns and I had to drop my taxes significantly after one of my planets went independant. I've never used offloading population to cure my morale problems, except when an invasion strategy bug caused me to have 2455234234 population on class 17 planets after an invasion. As far as indications of morale proble

I notice that many people mention that they will not sell diplomacy items. I have been in the habbit of always selling diplo translators to everyone, because I get it early, and I'm usually in dire need of catching up in tech. Why is it so bad to let the rivals get diplomacy? Thanks, Redshift

I've seen far worse english from people who speak no other language. (I only notice some minor punctuation issues in the first sentence). As for submitting scores to the metaverse, you should be prompted when you complete a game to submit. If you are online just click the submit button. I don't know if you have to upgrade to a certain patch level in order to submit. You have to have a registered account to submit, but you almost certainly already have that if you were able to join a

Thank everyone for their responses. The fact that the old scores are going to be run through the new scoring system is all I needed to know. (I mentioned that if everyone used the same system it would be fine.) As long as everyone plays by the same rules, competition is fair. I agree with those that said the game is becoming more balanced and challenging with each patch. Are there readmes posted somewhere where the changes are summarized? If I had seen the information about all the

I've very dissapointed in one aspect of the latest patch. I had a game in 1.03 that was worth 9000 points, but it wouldn't register as anything but a 0, so I downloaded the patch to fix the problem. Now the same game is worth 1500 points! I find this terribly unfair. 1.03 removes the 15% planet pick, changes AI to not be as free trading money, and makes it harder to take over planets with culture. All these things make the game more challenging to play, but because of the sco

First off, let me say that I never played 1.0. By the time I got the game from Best Buy, 1.02 was out and I immediatly installed SDC and updated to it. I think some of the language in this thread is a little strong. Some developers release games that are unplayable without a patch, but I don't think it's quite as rampant as has been claimed. Many games add features with the patches before expansion time (although not as much as this). Patches are a part of PC life, a
