Devaluation of old scores in Galactic Civilizations I Stardock Forums

To keep the Metaverse filled with active players rather then clogging the top ranks with old farts who dont play anymore, old scores are devalued over time. I heartily agree with the intent but not the method. I dont want to go into why the method currently used isnt that good, CM has done a fine job of that. But unlike CM I do not merely wish to adjust the numbers to mask the wierdness that occurs with his specific set of data, cause that wierdness occ

Weighting includes the denominator, period, it makes no sense to speak of weighting without taking this into consideration. Your version, T-mans version, do not adjust the denominator accordingly, its just pure devaluation.

No, what weighting means is what weighting means, you dont understand the concept and apparently neither does T-Man. I flatly said they were very different(weighting and devaluing scores) you said that I was flatly wrong and that they were identical. Your still wrong, they are not weighting the scores at all. Big Ditto on this one workaround I have found is that you can group a constructor with another ship type and then put the fleet on guard duty.

You know CM, you would think that you and I have 'discussed' things enough for you too maybe consider thatim not an idiot. There is a difference between degrading the value and degrading the weight. The most concise why I can explain this is by this. Reducing the value of the game is simple, you reduce the value of the game. so a 1000 point game reduced by 20% is worth 800 This is what you implied is going on(i havnt seen anything official

If I understand what you mean by score degrading, then its done competely wrong. The way you describe it, score degrading is done to punish old players for having played some time ago. The way score degrading should be done is to remove the effect of old games, which means degrading the weight that old games have, not degrading their value. They are not the same thing, in fact they are very different.

Its not 'newbies' that present a problem for vets its 'new' players who are at the same skill level. They have a pretty powerful advantage starting from zero games. Well, finished my game started in 1.044 in 1.05 was a pain doing it without governers though :( Hope they can quick patch this one as it makes the game nearly unplayable

Jus4golf, the overall score is not a pure accumulation Its the sum of all games divided by the square root of the number of games. Always been like this :)

CTD when ever I try to add anything to the governers build list. Its a fairly advanced game started in 1.044, will keep a save of it incase u want it.

Doesnt make then irrelevent Ray, it makes them dead weight, giving us a serious disadvantage compared to people who dont have many games submitted.

Hm, I think alot of this scoring difference might be due to researching final frontier with tech victory turned off. Alot of it is still pop though :) Got tech victory turned off in my current large game, lets see how it goes(will be several hours yet) [Message Edited]

Popup, Carlelf said she had that on her list, btw on larger maps its fairly easy to change ones alignment without abusing such a flaw. For the recrod, I have never abused that flaw in any game I submitted, though I do have a game I didnt submit where I had a 62 pq world at turn 4 :) I also stopped playing at turn 4 cause there ant no way in hell im submitting a game like that, heh

One negative side of using a combat transport for defense is, that when it dies, it takes a rather big chunk of the pop off your planet. As if some of that pop was on your transport, probably 2.5 billion :)

Teched to just before galatic creation and built every wonder/tradegood but 4. had a pop of 1.2 trillion(abundant) in the year 2204 Essentially achieved galatic domination in the year 2186 during frigate tech with the yor remaining on one system. An interesting suggestion alexti, but you still run into the problem of allowing people to achieve the perfect set of games, something which frogboy is against, though I certantly think its worthwhile :)

c has been around for awhile I believe I guess you noticed that choice TM for leasing (specially when partially built) is often cheaper overall then outright purchase, probably a bug :( but new leasing system is much better over all. Nice rush, much faster then I have ever done, but then again im a scoring whore and know im in for a longer game anyway, maybe I should try it just to see how fast I can do it :)
