It's already build in. You don't need to download anything. You need a solution > 1024 by 768 and a color depth of exactly 16bit. When you meet these prerequisites you can start it with "galciv.exe w" on the command line or change your shortcuts.
An aside, it also has been mentioned in another thread that addittional ram memory will help reduce the problem.
That's nonsence. This computer has 2 GByte and still has the problem. And remember it's one ship against one ship, e.g. Starfighter against Defender and it takes minutes on a 3.2 GHz machine with 2 GByte :SURPRISED: [Message Edited]
In one of my games I started on a violet planet with PQ 26. But in all my games this happened only once.
I didn't even know that this can happen. I always thought 20 ist the max you can get.

This seems to be a more general problem than I thought. I thought that it is an Intel problem but now I realize that Nvidia Ti4600 and ATI X700 are affected as well. (:( Thus it's not an Intel but a Stardock issue. Since GC2 has new grafics I hope that this part of the code will definitely not make it into the successor :notsure:

AFAIK the highest starting planet is 20. Create a party with 100% PQ ability, this would give you a 40. But keep in mind that the AI can use the party, too. Furthermore you can't submit games where you reached above 40% PQ. Any other idea?

I have never seen multiplayer mentioned in the featurelist, too. In my eyes it is an unlucky incident :sniff!: that you thought it is a multiplayer game. But it's not a lie of Stardock! :sniff!: But it's still worth the £20.00. ;p In fact it's my favorite game. Don't feel too sad. I hope you have got the budget to get another one for your LAN parties :notsure: AFAIK the successor GC2 is planned to have a multiplayer feature. It might be scheduled for the expansion, I'm not s

Hi ProudCanadian, this is not a bug, it's design ;). It was already reported some time ago. I guess they will make it different in GCII with ship models etc. I usually never wast my time to build battleships and thus never get the cutscene. But I don't miss it though :D

On galciv.de is a German patch for 1.20. Thus there are two options for German customers a) Install the newest English version and replace the files with Icho's patch b) Install the German CD version and the patch from galciv.de What would you recommend? What are the differences in the result (I guess this #@#*§ copy protection which requires the CD when you start the game would be active after b)) Are there any known or potential issues with versions after 1.2

Hi mstelly, CariElf offered you to help and when she looks into a problem she usually finds a good soltution. What else do you excpect but the personal offer of a developer to look into your problem? Where do you get better support? Why do you complain? Because she was honest and told you that someone else did code the functionality who left the firm? What she told us is a perfectly normal situation which is usually hidden by the firm. I personally like it very much

Alliance victory is the fastest and the only way to get the doubled points by a win in 2190. Thus there are so many submitting alliance wins. By the way I hate the 60k border. It's o.k. to limit the additional points from long games. But it should be more flexible.

I use Saints and Sinners but wihtout removing the original files. I just place it in the mods folder. I never have problems to get 100%. In seldom cases I settle some low quality planets just before the game ends to get some events. ;p

I think the numbers are on the diplomats forum. What I remember is that you get most for military and least for technology. Additionally ship batlles seem to count a lot. I did not find a way to stop AI to give up. But sometimes I get the planets. :D It has something to do with your relation and your overall influence and standing. The Metaverse calculation is very complex. Basically a period of 30 days is calculated together. The raw points are divided by the square r

Sure, my statement was a bit short. I thought it's clear that I mean n x ln(n). I just meant that it must not be and is not n square or worse. Whereas n x ln(n) is practically the same as linear for high numbers. I don't know which techniques Stardock uses and which are available. I use SQL only for I/O purpose and do the crunching on the appl server. Thus I'm not an expert for SQL. Yet allone from the pure algorith it should not be a performance problem. But you are right. Oops, cross over postings :) I did not think about calculation costs. It's a few thousand games per day and the amount grows linear. Recalculation needs only to be done in the last period. This does not change to the current model for player scores. Thus a contemporary GHz machine should not have any problems to handle this when it is well done. Most machines are idle most of the times anyway. Even servers mostly wait for I/O devices etc. I personally do develop software which crunches

Yes, the new empire calculation would penalise empires with a high number of players like The Jedi Republic or the European Alliance. But I still think that it would be more fair. But it is definitely not harder to explain than the current system. Why do you loose points when you submit a game? In the current system a newbie should not submit at all since these low scores will slow him down in the long run. With the new system it would be an additional motivation to ge

The cause of the problem is that you do not get the same number of points for a game all the time. My proposal is. Multiple accounts are still allowed. But the empire score is not simply the sum of the players score. The empire should be calculated like a super user. Put all games of all players in a big pot and calculate a new score. The problem here is the same as for old accounts. Low scores do lower your total score :( Thus a newby might not be welcome because he wou

Very interesting thread :SURPRISED: But honestly I'm not surprised. This topic was cooking for a long time and it needed some kind of cleaning thunderstorm. There are different intentions which conflict. Some want to have additional fun by playing roles with different players. Some want to have a fair competition between empires. This needed to be discussed. Nobody should be pissed off when others have other opinions. Don't let discussions ruin your fun. Stardock i

I do it for fun and submit it to Meta. Like many others. True, it is some kind of cheating or cheese. But I don't hide it. I post what I do and when I find tips or strategies I post them as well. Everybody is free to do the same. The only way to stop this 100% is to disable the save ability :p Even without cheat codes you could rushbuy some scouts and explore with some fast turns before you start your game. I did this before the cheat codes were available (they came
