The reward for being good is much more nebulous and long-term than the fast, obvious gains made by the expediency of evil.
Even in the long run there are more benefits for going the evil path than the good path when you compare the number of Evil only techs vs Good only techs and each have their own benefits over their counterparts. The ONLY benefit I've seen so far (all my games are over long before the 'long term benefits' can be gotten) for being good is that your don

I'm dense, I admit it..what is 172i? and how does that differ from say "80-3 Altarians: NanoEl+MedT+IndT for Shields+9bc" Sometimes it takes hitting me in the back of the head with the book for me to get it.
I just checked and CultMax was reached by turn 87-7... If anybody is interested in more detail, I actually have a sketchy timeline (acquired and researched tech) stored away too.
::Raises his hand:: I'm interested Also, do you know of anyplace where I can get streamlined tech trees for just morale and influence techs? Also, what did your initial rushes consist of? In the crippling game I just played all of the AI's had defenders on their planets within
Your immune to the fundamentalist event if your goodyour very resistent to it if you have high morale
Interesting, my overall morale was +90% and my alignment was around 30, but them dang Fundamentalist still got me :(
If you gotten it twice in 2 games, thats just coincidence.
Guess I'm just unlucky with events then!
Oh, and how does the computer on maso get dreadnoughts so fast (five or six years )
Apparently on Maso, the AI has a HUGE research bonus and Tech's very very very fast. I've not played a Maso game but in my recent crippling game I kept well ahead of the others in tech by research what they did and making sure I got all the trade goods. Then I'd trade these for techs I hadn't researched and research up from there, rinse repeat. Plus it helps when the Drengin are giving
You are progressing rapidly through the difficulties, Robert. A level a day is impressive.
Ray, first time I played this game I got corned and was getting my butt kicked on cakewalk. But ever since changing to Populist and using +Speed I've never had a problem, since I can always beat the other races to the planets. Also, on all the tiny/rare/tight maps I have played I keep using ctrl-n until I get a system that has at least two systems I can colonize. There are

Well, tomorrow I take the plunge...wish me luck. Hopefully all the great strategies posted here will see me through to the end, hopefully with a victory!

I captured the Torian home world and one of the completed projects is Eyes of the Universe. Do I now get the benefit of that Wonder since I captured it intact? I did the ctrl-r to refresh the sensors but saw no change from before. So is it just wasted now? By the way, I didn't want to attack the Torians but that dang event came up saying they were going to get more powerful every turn...I had all my trade routes to them so this was a major bummer!

This is what bothers me about the Good and Evil choices. There are techs that can only be researched if you are Good or Evil but when it comes down to the Events every single one, that I have seen, benefits the Evil players. Where are the Events that will Benefit the Good players, other than raising their alignments even higher.

After reading this in the strategy guide I finally understand why all those sectors filled with production enhancing starbases were spending so much money! Nothing like a real eye-opener to make you rethink your game. f) Also, since 66% of bonus production is counted as needing funding, things that increase production (military production, social production, and research) costs money, on top of the maintenance costs for the improvement. Therefore if you are really in a pinch you

I'm not worried about being bored by the game. I've been playing steady now for awhile, just recently started submitting the scores. What just don't think its fair to players who are in position to win to be penalized for finishing the game when there hasn't been enough time to finish the tree. I guess this is only a problem only on the tiny maps where games are very quick.

In the game I finished last night it was just the Yor's final planet and me. I had only researched about 1/3 the tech tree to that point. In various posts I've read in this forum it has been mentioned that total research is part of the final score. What I am wondering is, would my final score have been higher if I had just dumped all resources into research and hit turn repeatedly to finished the entire tech tree? I decided I didn't want to face the hours of pure boredom associated with doin

I do understand now. So, your +5% PQ may not do you much in the beginning, but later as you progess in the game and build up the planet, it adds to the bonus you receive then. I do have one more newbie question about late game planet improvements. When colonizing class 14 planets they jump to class 16. Is this due to the Terraformer that I built or are there other things affecting the planet? These are planets without any event boosting the PQ.

Ever since choosing the PQ +5% trait I've been wondering if I've wasted the points. I haven't been keeping track, which is my regret, so I'm wondering if ya'll know. In almost all of the games I've been playing most of the planets that I've found to colonize are in the 16 to 19 range. Every now and then I'll find a 20+ planet, but that seems to be rare, and this is whether I am playing rare or abundant maps. If the game rounds down than anything below a PQ 20 planet would not get any benefit

The Arcean's had surrendered to me but a couple of turns later I reloaded to the turn before the surrender due to some bad decisions. After that the Arceans will only surrender to the Yor. I reloaded 20 times just to see if they would ever surrender again to me and they never did.

I have a high end system too and this game looks just fine. I only run 1024x768 because anything finer makes it hard to read. I for one am happy that the developers spent less time on eye candy and more time on developing a great game all around. Besides, there are plenty of so called "new" games out now that have worse graphics.
