Instead of buying colony ships and going into debt, consider just puting all your spending toward military and raising it to 100% untill you've spent all your starting money (or untill you run out of worlds to colonize). That way you can build lots of colony ships without winding up with leases that last for years. ~SDC~

It's not complicated at all. Large Scale Building looks like this: //------------------------------------------------------------------------ TECH 59 LargeScaleBuilding //------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name "Large Scale Building" Model "" Tech_Requirement "BistrontAlloy" Tech_Requirement "AdvancedEngineering" Tech_Requirement
In Stardock Central under the Software tab click on GalCiv and on the left there will be a link that says "History". That'll describe every change in every update. ~SDC~
Hyper Warp is now a prerequisite for Xeno Intimidation and Large Scale Building ~SDC~
I find that really odd. It knows there are 8 parties; it says so at the bottom of the screen. Unless there are already misnumbered parties, that means that the next number has to be 8. So why does it "suggest" 20? That was a hint for those of you who are wondering what they should type in when it asks you for a number, BTW. ~SDC~
But they you would introduce the "I know I can never capture the system because of the insanely high defense, but it only takes one Combat Transport to ruin their planet forever" exploit. ~SDC~
Ok, I figured out how to put a logo with the party. I grabbed the logo off the PanGaea Cooperative empire page and converted it to the same format as the party logos that came with the game and seems to work. http://www.cs.rit.edu/~pjw9720/hedonists.zip If anybody wants to come up with a better logo just let me know. There has to be a small (24x24) and a large (40x40) version, 256 colors. I have no artistic skills at all. ~SDC~
I'll bet it's your party's ID number. The first line after the party's name in the .party file says "ID" and then a number. That's the spot it has in the list. If it says "ID 20" and you only have 8 other parties, there'll be 11 blank spaces between your party and one before it. Scroll down and you'll see it. Then edit your .party file so that it has the next sequential ID number. ~SDC~
"You are defeated. Beg now while you still have a tongue to beg with." And he said this right after I used Terror Stars to blow up every single one of his systems. Somebody needs to tell the AI that just because you have more ships doesn't mean that you're winning. :HOT: [Message Edited]
Remember that the damages from invasion tactics only happen if you capture the system. You could use Mass Drivers to beat down the population and then finish it up with Traditional Warfare if there's too much. And some times you just have to bite the bullet and blow everything up. I played one game where the Altarians had 5 systems in a sector (and the map was set to Scattered stars!), every planet had ~40k population, and all their defenses gave them an advantage factor equal to mine
I think there's a little Pangaeanist in all of us. ;) What I'd like to do before submiting it to the Library or Lord Megatron's mod site is give it a proper logo. "Misc02" just doesn't capture the spirit of the Hedonists. Anybody know how to go about making a party logo? ~SDC~
Greetings, PanGaeans. I was thinking about you guys in history class the other day. The professor mentioned something about Peter The Great and drunken orgies with Germans and said that some historians joked that that was really what got Peter interested in adopting western ideas. So I thought "Hm. Convincing other civilizations to adopt their culture with wild parties. Who does that remind me of?" And then, because I was tired and his voice is sleep-inducing, I spent the next fifte
I'm sure I read somewhere that Creativity improves the chances of Unexplained anomalies giving you +25% research toward the current tech instead of nothing. ~SDC~
It's what people say when they have nothing to add to a thread, but want to keep in on the first page of the forums. Like a poor man's sticky, only if you do it too often the thread gets cluttered with multiple posts that just say "bump". [Message Edited]
There's a bunch of usefull information in the encyclopedia on galciv.com. I found the stuff about the caps here: http://www.galciv.com/docs/undocs.html . ~SDC~
The bonuses stack, but at 10xPQ you start to take penalties of extra production, so you're not going to get much more production out of maxing dozens of starbases. Trade is not caped, however. [Message Edited]
To get the absolute latest version you'll need to update using Stardock Central (second item on the download page). Sometimes it takes them forever to make a stand alone patch. ~SDC~
"The Altarian Republic are EVIL. But there's 'evil' and true evil. Their kind of evil is the sort of half-witted cartoon villainy." Set the Altarians to Evil and their intelligence to sub-normal. ~SDC~
Remember that the IAs get to use the new techs, events, and political parties too. As long as you don't use mods that give rediculous stat boost you're probably ok. There's a mod in the Library http://www.galciv.com/library.asp called "Good/Evil Improvement Pak" by Nand1 that I just downloaded the other day. 23 new techs and 27 new improvments really spice up that old boring tech tree. Also pick up the Smuggling tech, since it's a prereq for one of the techs in the pack. ~SDC~
I just ran into a tech in a mod I downloaded from the Library (Tourism, from Nand1's "Good/Evil Improvement Pak") that had under it's ability increases "Crime+10". I've never heard of the Crime stat before, but now I have Crime+10 on my stats page. Is crime more of a problem in my society now? Am I better at crime than I used to be? What is "Crime" anyway? And is there a list somewhere of all the stats and what they do? And why doesn't this forum support italics? I don't like the w
Hi. I just started getting interested in mods and wanted to make one or two of my own, but I've got to say I'm at a loss for how I could determine if something was balanced or if the bonuses it gives are just too great. What do you guys do when you make a political party to make sure it's balanced? ~SDC~
http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/legend.asp A list of all the little metaverse icons that show up below your posts. Doesn't actually tell you what a Captain and a Fleet Captain are, but it does say what the bars mean. And those are the only ones that don't come with tooltips if you hold your mouse over them, for some reason. ~SDC~
No, the ratio of Military:Social:Research spending can only be changed empire-wide. Having the other planets produce "Nothing" will NOT stop them from spending the money. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
I like the story events, like the one where the religious fanatics release the Dreadlords. Add some variety to the game, so it's not you battling it out with the five major races over and over. ~SDC~
The wormhole technologies aren't really good for anything, they just lead you to the Final Frontier tech. Researching Final Frontier is one of the possible victory conditions (the one that gives the least points). You can use a Terror Star to attack (and destroy) an enemy star system the same way you use ships to attack other ships. You can never make the Terror Star move more than one space per turn, except by exploiting a bug whose details I'm not familiar with, so it's a good idea to build
