Somehow, I don't think anything that involves a computer will ever give you the feeling of reading a real book. Few things in life can satisfy as much as curling up with a good book. I somehow just can't fathom the same enjoyment cozying up to my monitor. Sorry. I realize my comment doesn't help you with your question. But I get the feeling sometimes when browsing this board that some people could do with a bit more reading of good books. I hope someone else can give you some more use

I don't understand the appeal of bootscreens or logons at all, honestly, since I so very rarely see them. And I'm really sick of reading about them... As for walls, I'll join the chorus. I know XP is under the hood I don't need any reminders. ok... did someone start a rumor that semicolons are chocolate? Because someone or something is eating them... [Message Edited]

ChasUGC, I apologize for my previous post. I just discovered through Skin Studio that WB does require the wallpaper to be a .bmp if you include the wallpaper in the skin. Since I always change my walls through display properties, I have never used this feature in WB. Why WB does not accept .jpg is a question I will ask in the windowblinds newsgroup. Again, I apologize.

If you don't have icon packager, you can switch to large icons in Display Properties. Right click on the desktop, and Properties. When the Display Properties dialog opens, click on the Appearance Tab. On the right hand side of this tab about halfway down, click on the Effects button. In the new dialog button that opens up, about halfway down the list, click on the 'Use large icons' checkbox. Hit the 'OK' button to close the window. On the main Display Properties dialogue, click the 'Ap

#5 by kona0197 - 2/23/2004 3:55:07 PM well they do have the description of windowblinds 4.1 messed up. the trial version AND the registered versions both work on XP. Actually, kona, I think you read the description on that page backwards. It says: Note: This shareware version works only on XP . The registered version works on 98

ChasUGC, you continually post on this board that wallpapers need to be bitmaps. Your assertion would only be true in the rare case that someone doesn't have the latest Service Pack for their version of Windows installed, or in the case of Win98 have a very old version of Internet Explorer (IE 4.x or lower) and no SP for the older version of IE. On Windows XP, the use of .jpg as wallpaper has been fixed since SP1 was published over two years ago. XP also supports the use of .gif, .dib,

#11 by Skinner ChasUGC So, I guess your idea is, if you try to be nice and say nothing, then you are acting like elitests. If you tell how you really feel and be honest, then you are an -hole. Those are my only choices, and I'll choose the former <

you don't have to buy a product to download and install SDC. It's free That's true, but I think it misses the point of Essencay's original post, at least as I understood it. For answering fairly simple questions, it would be very complicated to give them a link to Download SDC, then give them instructions to Download the ODNT manual .pdf file, t

KarmaGirl, I agree with you that it would be better to use that board for this purpose, and that threads posted here after moderation are largely unproductive. And you're right, there is nothing to prevent a wall artist from posting there to ask for feedback. The purpose of my post was intended to point out that your idea is a good one, but in the 8 or 9 months that I've been coming here, the skinning board is getting used very rarely for that purpose, and generally only by established

Stumpy... As the grayhaze post was made less than 24 hours previously, and was made sticky almost immediately (not sure when since I wasn't here when posted), I think I can understand how it may have been missed. As a regular visitor here, I confess that I routinely skip right past the stickies because they often don't change or add anything new in a meaningful way - it's mostly either "Good post", "Thank You", or "Me, too," comments beyond the initial post. Which begs the question in m

have found that reading pfds is rather pointless as all they tell you is how to wear them. The one other thing I like about .pdf files is that they print out very nicely, obviously, since that was the reason the format was created. Call me old-fash

Randy, thanks for the tip... ) DavidK, thanks for the suggestion to check out Alien Technology I just now downloaded it. (Would have gotten back here sooner, but yesterday was my fiancee's birthday... you know how that goes ) Thanks also for the comment about the 3-pixel border... that was one of the things making me wonder if my install of Skin Studio was corrupted, glad to know it's not

Listening to ad3x is like trying to solve a Zen riddle. He makes me think of this old boy we knew in Kentucky that was always complaining about the car his daddy gave him. He hated that car because it just wouldn't run right. So we offered to fix it for him. Nope. Didn't want it fixed. And why not? Because if we fixed it, he might like it, and he wanted to get rid of it. And why did he want to get rid of it? Because it needed to be fixed.

joetheblow, Thanks for your suggestion. I do understand how compound skins work, and in fact, the blind I'm working on is already a compound skin with subskins for alternate color schemes. To clarify what I was asking, I was specifically concerned about having a UIS1 skin be a subskin of a UIS2 skin, since my results at trying it so far are a bit funky. I'll take a look at DavidK's skins, though, and see if that can get me on track. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/jo

Essencay, thank you very much for acknowledging and graciously understanding the point I was trying to make. Jafo, your reticence in post #1 was noted, at least by me, and as ever, sir, your perspicacity is appreciated. To all subscribers, lest you think I somehow intended to diminish your contributi

My sincerest sympathies and heartfelt prayers go out to you and your family, Jarget. I went through a similar experience with my father not long ago and I can understand how you must be feeling. I know that sympathy and prayer are no compensation for the pain you feel, but I offer both anyway, and wish I could do more.

I have been hesitant to post on this thread for fear my comments might be misconstrued, but I have finally decided I need to get this off my chest and risk the potential fallout. Having become somewhat familiar with Essencay through this messageboard, I would like to believe he did not intend to be disparaging of Stardock customers in the resolution of his petition. Nevertheless, this last line of the resolution disturbs me: "The time is now to distinguish these residents from the mass
