I was just looking ships on autopilot then it froze and with the task manager I found it was at 100% CPU with galciv not responding. This is the file I found. Ok Cari, I have a win2000-sp3 on an IBM Thinkpad T20 (PIII-800-256MB). I reloaded the same game and all is perfect now. Don't really know... What is dxdiag? BTW, attached is a debug.err from the 6th of jan. Don't remember what I was doing. It's really one of the very few bugs I got. Could be from 4A. In 4B if you have Survey Ships (3 in my case) set to Autosurvey and UP voted not to explore anomalies outside owned territory it happens that sometimes the game catches you shouldn't survey there (outside owned) and stops you (and you already know this). It happens then that other unrelated ships get out from autopilot... Strange.

I'd apreciate if Brad lists what ideas expressed in this forum have been picked for V1 or later updates. This would help us have some "long range vision" and not re-think about something already accepted. This would also add some real feeling to the Drengin subscription concept. Thanks ;)

I've missed many threads lately... Thanks for the summary :) I can accept that AI makes things I wouldn't but I want to be set on pair about that great advantage they have by knowing where good planets/resouces are. Perhaps sensor could give at least the type of the suns in the galaxy... I also like the starmap idea :) :)

I never had this problem, but since Beta 4 I have that sound and music seem to interphere one with the other. Each time music has to be stopped for playing some sound, everything slow down and I have to wait some seconds. Tried to disable sound but even if that's not played it interphere someway. Sorry if has already been reported...

I agree on the range issue. I liked more those set in GC Gold for OS/2. Starbases should work as planets for ranges if a "ship support module" is added. I'd also like to have, randomly, permanent wormholes (between two of them, and have them marked on the minimap to be used by any ship as a way to fast move. Obviously you should also consider the passage in your range calculations.

Playing 4A... All opponents to genius, random alignement, Huge galaxy, occasional planets,... Populist + 8 Points on research. As soon as I get in contact with other races they are far more superior than me in techs, population, ships, starbases, ... Simply I cannot understand HOW can it happen in a relatively small number of turns. The thing that get me crazy also is that they have a huge number of constructors while I'm still building my firs one :( Ple

IBM still upgrades OS/2 (mainly dev.drivers) in a program for enterprises called "eBOSS" where you pay a maint. fee to get upgrades. OS/2 is hard to die... ...but was also hard to live for it. I'd say it's a tough guy.

Long time ago' Brad said it was easier to re-write it. Anyway I still feel GC V1 was different from V2/Gold as GC-Win is different. Each had it's good time. For sure adding all major GC versions (1.08, 2.5, Gold) for OS/2 wouldn't add much to the GC-Win CD-Rom or download. Could be a nice thing for all the OS/2 fans owning a Drengin account. I mean, download via standard Drengin as files, copy to OS/2 partition and manually unzip. BTW, I also have the package of the very re

Brad, I'll get crazy! ;) I was ready to submit comments on 3Z and you throw out 3Z-1... Unfair LOL A lot of improvements and two major "complains": - AI should not know where good planets are. It's a huge advantage. I know there are AI coding problems involved. - I'd like to be able to "tell" AI to join me or be destroyed. This is not feasible with the current give-and-take logic. More on another thread...

OS/2 was owned inside IBM by the networking division... This can let you understand a lot... IBM never had a consumer mindset. IBM is Enterprises best friend and knows how to work with and satisfy them more than anyone else in the long term and across the board. Missing applications were a big problem not solved with Lotus buyout (IBM bought Lotus for Notes). Do you know Sun's StarOffice comes from an IBM Germany division? Many IBMers never belived in OS/2 even whe

I'm currently downloading GC Multimedia from a work lan access but DGM drops every minute with SDS0004. I'm at the latest level of DGM and I'm sure not that many in the states are accessing it at 9 AM... I suppose there is an improvement needed. Don't know where...

Besides all good stuff discussed, I'd like more diplomacy options. As an example I'd like to be able to tell a civilization: "I'm crushing you, surrend (planets, ships, starbases, ...) and you'll be fully part of my civilization with voting rights. This would generate an alien party in the senate at the beginning (so I could not swallow too big empires) and then gradually (with integration) fade into a niche party.

About balancing... Ranges at Huge are too wide at the beginning. You are really not worried about ranges. Big ships (transports and colony) should have miserable ranges (1 and 2 at beginning). Could also be a factor of n° of beeings loaded. Colonies Transports Below 100M ---> 2 2 Over 100M ---> 1 1 1 or 2 beeing the the number of adiacent sectors rings. Ranges techs would add +1 to the above. Starbases could ext

My vote is for easeing ship management. Ok for grouping ships (no fleet to fleet attacks since that would distort GC focus) but I want that the strongest defend the convoy in attack or defense. special ships should not attack by default. Eventually I'd apreciate mine layers and sweepers ships. In naval games they add spicey, so should be for space based... Mine fields location could be known by all (peace laying) or secret. Mine fields could be activated/deactivated and
