Someone please explain to me just who/what Trillian is and why they would be hacking (into?) their system? Some reference was made to SPAM, to which I am totally opposed. The way you said this it sounds like Trillian is using mail server user lists to generate SPAM address lists. Is this correct? If so, it would seem that even MSN is exposed to this kind of abuse. Cari, Do you have a link to an online news article?

I think everyone has missed the point. This is (still is?) an _ALPHA_ test. At the beginning of the beta level of the OS/2 version there was a lot of nice things missing that were staged in later in the beta. I expect much to filter in as the builds keep coming. This puts my choice on this poll as F) - this poll is way too early. BTW, has everyone except me quit testing or is it getting very difficult to find new bugs. Cheers, Jack

You mean a star can be captured even when there are defenders or battle cruisers in orbit? I thought they would defend the system. And where did they go when I de-orbitted them? (I forgot to mention that: I sent all 12 out of orbit, but they did not show up north of the star.) I am sure (almost) that there were 12 ships in orbit. Could there be a bug in the defense of a system with the maximum number of ships such that the engine thinks there are none? Chee

This is on a gigantic galaxy with 10+ hours of play. I captured a system that, strange enough, had 12 ships in orbit that could have been either defenders or battle crusers (the "in orbit" icons of these ships are too similar to tell the difference). So I thought, hey, they decided to come over to my side (of course, I knew this was a bug). Since then I have a battleship that was sitting next to this system when I captured it that seems to be able to move into a tile occupied b

I have been giving my last post on this thread considerable thought. While I have always expected a ship to exit from orbit to the tile north of the star, there have been times when I wish I could tell the ship which direction to exit. Could this be put on the wish list? Thanks, Jack

Ideas like this seem to take a nights sleep to occur to me. Cari, You mentioned that you were able to customize "smartexception" for information specific to GalCiv (Your words were "add support for it into the GalCiv code). Does it allow you to include specific user info such as the registration info on a user's system? How about the compiled version of GalCiv.EXE, or the date/time from the GALCIV.EXE file? How about the time/date of the crash? In some cases sp

This tool is _GREAT_!!! For all to see how wonderful this tool is for diagnostics, here is a clip from the exception report file of three crashes I generated from having too many improvements tied to one tech (tech 63 - nanofrequencyelectronics): Stardock SmartException Logging Information ------------------------------------------- OS Version : Windows ME Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS (IBM) Application Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Cras

Just for the fun of it, and to see how well "smartexception" works, I swapped some improvements back to tech 63 and tried again. I found that the number 13 is significant, that is, it can handle 13 improvements for one tech. Perhaps, if this is the correct limit, it would be a good idea to add a comment at the top of the improvement file to reflect this. Also, I am going to post the exception report in the thread introducing "smartexception" so that all can see how great<

Perhaps by retaining some small but crucial file, such as the tech or ship file until the game is registered would do the trick. That way the game is unplayable until it is registered. If this is too extreme, how about an abreviated version of a critical but small file, such as the ship or tech file, then they could start the game, but would need to register it before getting more than, say, half way through a game. Cheers, Jack

Cari, I like the term "tile" for where I have sometimes been using the terms "space" (as in a spot of a segmet) or "square". So the planet was 3 tiles below the upper galaxy boundary with two empty tiles above it. Cheers, Jack

I discovered the following two oddities on a gigantic galaxy after building up quite an armada (so did all five of the enemy races): When I move one of my ships into a space next to an enemy ship it atacks me. Also, if an enemy ship moves into a space next to one of mine it should have no more moves but it still attacks me. My debug file is over 4Meg in size, so I don't dare try to open it.

After leaving orbit and I had given it a destination it moved one space up to the edge of the galaxy. There were no other objects withing several spaces (I am not sure how you define pixels. How many pixels does a ship move on the main screen when it goes up?) Cheers, Jack
