Cari, When you find the culprit for this problem please let me know if you think it could affect more than one tech. I am getting a similar crash after 5+ hours, and am naturally suspicious that it is a related failure but with a different tech, one that takes hours to research. What would happen if I edited the tech file to allow me to research all techs the first turn? Will it even work? If it will, it might enable me to test each one to find other techs that

In a huge galaxy after 5 hours GalCiv crashed. The debug file had: ---------------------------------- Debug Message: Unable to open file Gfx\Conquered.pcx ASSERT ERROR in file g:\projects\pear\source\diskdata.cpp at line 119. Debug Message: Unable to open Bitmap file: Gfx\Conquered.pcx ------------------------------- There is no such file in GalCiv\GFX. Also, the second line looks very strange. I don't have a G: disk. Curious, since althoug

I am not sure what to call this window but it is in the bottom right of the main window and contains a list of the completions for the current turn. Also, I think someone had been asking for suggestions for it but I can't find the thread in in the last 5 days of this forum (and no search function as yet). One thing I find awkward is that there are only two entries shown when there is room for more. The spacing is just too much on my screen (1280*1024). Also, the

I just noticed something. The tech "Nano Frequency Electronics" has the second most number of characters in its name. The longest is "Advanced Artificial Intelligence", which I have not been able to try researching. Strangely, if researching this tech is what is causing all of these crashes, it is unique to the current build. I researched it many times successfully in previous builds. Cheers, Jack

With this build I have now played a gigantic galaxy for 10+ hours sithout a crash. I was trying to see if any tech other than Nano Frequency Electronics might cause it to crash, but I had to give up. Too bad the game save/load features are not ready. Cheers, Jack

With the build for 1/18/02 I played a gigantic galaxy without researching nanofrequencyelecctronics for about 10 hours without it crashing. My intent had been to see if there was another tech that might cause it to crash, but it took to long. Without the save/load game options, this is as far as I can go. Cheers, Jack

I just saw another pathing problem. From a planet three spaces from the top of a tiny galaxy I directed it to a spot in a sector in the bottom of the galaxy. The ship first tried to use a path that wrapped from the top to the bottom of the galaxy. Cheers, Jack

Ouch. I would guess it is also pretty expensive to get a publisher to get a game into the stores for the same reason (I read the paper you wrote on how aggressive some companies are about protecting their trademarks from similar named unrelated products). Cheers, Jack

Paul, Why is your transport getting destroyed when you are attacking a planet with, what I assume is, a ship with attack capabilities? This has not happened to me, but I may have been protecting my transport by moving it with my attacking ship (always in the same place). Next time around I am going to put my transport next to a planet in a space by itself while attacking an enemy planet or enemy ship to see what happens. Cheers, Jack

I forgot to mention one thing that confused me in trying to figure this problem out. There is no entry in the debug file for techs I start researching (or does the debug file show completions? It looks like start.). When I looked at the debug file for the possibility that a tech completion might be causing the crash what I saw mislead me. Please add entries into the debug file to show what techs I start researching and how many turns it should take. Thanks,

Is there something about tech "63 NanoFrequencyElectronics" that could be causing this crash? I just played a game in a huge galaxy and, on a hunch, delayed researching this tech until later than I usually did. I got 172 turns. When I started the research on this tech it was supposed to complete in one month, so it was easy for me to tell when the research should complete. I now believe completion of this tech is the trigger to the crash. I am going to try this again with

This sent me looking for the boxes for the OS/2 versions (1 and 2). If memory serves, you had problems with the publisher for version 1 (Advanced Idea Machines) and published version 2 on your own. Does my memory mislead me again? Oh, and I still have my "ONE SHARE --- Galactic Colonization Incorporated" certificate. How about that? Cheers, Jack
