Since I only had one ship on autopilot I can not say whether others would loose autopilot as well. The only ship types I had on autopilot when this happened were colony ships and defenders. It happened to both types. Cheers, Jack

Is it possible that GalCiv does not detect wshen it has been put into the background? Try this. Open the GalCiv folder so you can see the debug file (It may not exist if you have never played a game). Start CalCiv. After a couple of turns go to the OS desktop (CTRL-Esc). Refresh the GalCiv folder if necessary to show the icon for the debug file. Left click _once_ on the debug file and the file's size shows up on the left side of the window. Wait a few seconds, refresh
Same behavior after attacking a ship.
After attacking a planet with a star fighter the ship still had a move left (normal?). After moving the ship it showed still selected with 0 moves. TAB and FIND did not find another ship to move (there were two others not in orbit), so I assume all of the ships had moved this turn. This is inconsistant with anything else I have ssen, but perhaps this is a good thing. It allows one to decide whether or not one wishes to change any destinations given to other ships. But... C
Well, at first blush it looked like it was fixed. The behavior did change, Now, however, if there is more than one ship left pressing a direction key does nothing. Pressing the TAB key leaves it in the same unmovalbe state. Only pressing the find key allows you to move the ship. Cheers, Jack
An accelerator key (perhaps "c" for center) is most desirable. I am often going off to another part of the galaxy, putting the current ship off screen, and investigating something. Getting back to the selected ship gets more frustrating with each increase of galaxy size. If it is later in the plan, could you move it up in the plan? Please? Thanks, Jack
This appears to be fixed in yesterday's build.
There was such a feature in the OS/2 GalCiv that was an option one could turn on or off, but it did not appear in the original 1.0 release. I liked this feature and hope it shows up shortly before this version is completed. Cheers, Jack
I am using Windows ME. Someone told me how to get a screen shot, but I have been unable to get the "print screen" key to do anything. Also, I thought I saw somehting somewhere some time back when hacking around on my OS that allowed me to turn on or off some of the special keys, such as the "pring screen" key. Thanks, Jack
I remember seeing a setting that allows one to tell Windows what to do with the abend information from applications. It seems the options were to display or file the crash data or ignore it. Does anyone know of this and where to find it? I also think I have the "print screen" option turned off. I would like pointers to the controls to this as well. Thanks, Jack
We have great faith in you Cari. We know you can do it with ease. Cheers, Jack
I'll try it again to get something from the debug file. Also note: this is with a large number of ships. I have noticed that there is a lot of strange behavior that starts when the number of ships gets large. Cheers, Jack
My testing is now to the point where I need to be able to save and restart a game. (I do not leave my OS up overnight because I am so untrustful of the OS). Also, isn't the ability to save and load games an important subject of alpha testing? Cheers, Jack
Start the GalCiv applications (from the DGM). Select "start new civilization". Press "done" on the setup screen. Select a tech to researd and press "done" (this is just to get the tech screen out of the way). Press escape to bring up the menu that includes the "autoturn", "autobuild", "return to menu" and "continue" actions (did I miss one?). Click on "return to main menu", which takes you to the first screen with the "start new civilization" and "quit" buttons. Press the
I must have had well over 50 ships when this started happening. I was using a "large" galaxy at the time. I had them all on manual because they had suddenly (again) developed a mind of their own and started heading to a single point (all but those in orbit) (subject of another thread already active). I also had autoturn turned off. After moving a few ships the program did not select the next unmoved ship. I am not sure what would have happened if I had pushed the "tur
Try this: from the start of the game, with autoturn on. Do not build any new ships so that you only have the original two. Find and colonize another planet. Suddenly the automatic selection of the next (now the only) ship fails and the TAB key does not select the ship. The Find button does select the ship and I suspect that right clicking on it will also select the ship. I have tried this several times now on the three smallest sizes of galaxies, and the failure is very <br
Cari, Please hold off on this one until I examine it some more. I am beginning to see more of what you have been saying and am wondering if I have been missunderstanding what I have been seeing. I will let you know what I find. Thanks, Jack
Alex, Perhaps we could be of more help if we had a link to a screen shot so we could understand better what you are looking for. With the dialogue so far on this thread I feel like I am trying to help with insufficent data. Cheers, Jack
Cari, I just tried a tiny galaxy and this one shows stars in adjacent sectors as you expected, just N, S, E, and W. This is understandable for a galaxy that is only 3X3 sectors and you might want to keep some of the galaxy information hidden for a while. But is what I saw an inconsistancy for larger galaxies? Certainly a diagonal is still only one sector away, so it seems likely that knowing there are stars there would be consistant with the intent, but insn't bei
Just tried a large galaxy, and it is only showing stars in secters adjacent to explored sectors, not the next two. I will check the medium and small galaxies again tomorrow. Cheers, Jack
Subject says it all. Sending ships in crossing and overlapping routes leaves spots, sections, or complete paths where the fog does not return. Cheers, Jack
I don't understand why a transport can't take a star system in the same turn that the system's defenses are destroyed. Is it intended to be this way? Shouldn't a star be takable immediately upon loosing all of its ships in orbit if you have a transport ready and waiting (with a move still available)? Cheers, Jack
I ran into this on a medium size galaxy. I am not sure it can be reproduced on one where you can't build 40+ ships (actually, I had about twice this much when this started happening). Almost always when one ship attacks another and wins it remains in its spot (it does not move into the space of the attacked ship) and it will have a move still available. Once in a while, however, it will move into the destroyed ship's spot, using its move. (I have only seen this with
Another point to consider: Things like Warcraft x, Spacecraft x, Ceasar x, etc. is that they are what I call single play games. You can never get anything but the one storyline out of it no matter how many times you try. Cheers, Jack
