Ugly: you can research a Diplomacy tech that allows missions to pirates... which is essentially private bounty - on anyone, including allies.
-Kortul weapon jam on autocast gets used even with nothing nearby.
I also see this behavior on the Nano Weapons Jammer, in addition to the Jam Weapons on the Kortul, and the Advent Starbase as mentioned above. This was a nasty bug that hit several Vasari abilities (and a few from other races) in Entrenchment, that was fairly recently fixed... I'm presuming the code just wasn't carried over? Because this bug is firmly eradicated in Entrenchment.</p

I always kinda liked the diplomacy in MOO3 (yeah, I'm one of the few that liked that game... I used to be an accounting major, spreadsheets don't phase me in the least :-P). That's not an option though... so... dunno.

You can only have one of each type of pact. If you give a shield pact to someone, you both count as having your shield pact in place - neither one of you can give or receive another shield pact until you cancel your original pact (at which point neither of you have a shield pact). So no, you cannot stack pacts together. -Itharus Edits are in bold.
I like the pirates as they are. IMPO they are still quite weak but more anoying now for sure.
Do you play modded or something? I'm getting pirate cruisers with more hp/armor/dps than any of my level 10 cap ships. If you consider that weak, you're either cheating or playing a mod, or just trying to talk up your ePeen. I mean ffs, these things can rickroll a fully defended system in less than 4 minutes. Here's my take on it:

Occaisionally, after researching the tech that allows you to request donations... you wont see the option for quite a while. I'm pretty sure it's a bug of some sort, namely because sometimes the option will appear right after researching, and relationship with the target doesn't seem to matter on whether or not I can give the mission (just whether they reject it). I have never had it not work with TEC (ie: not show up for a while). I have no experience with it with the Advent. With th

Wall of Text that is both on and off topic and contains a rant ahead: The AI, as far as I can tell, only backstabs allies based on how many "allied victors" you set. For instance, if you have 4 people allied, and there can only be three victors - there will be a backstabbing. It will, however, be you 100% of the time. So, no, not really... the AI doesn't backstab, and it will betray you first despite relations. You will h

When you have 3-4 construction frigates, the work goes pretty damned fast... but... the Vasari upgrade makes it look like a snail, by the end of the tech trees Vasari can damned near insta-populate a grav-well with structures. Also, there is no need to manually select the frigates and tell them to work together, the auto-cast should be functioning. Sometimes if you queue up more buildings than you have construction frigates - the frigates will do 1:1 instead of trying to 3:1 each stru

I'm curious to see how this one turns out. To vote in the poll, sign in on the forums, then hit the home button (the webpage's home button, NOT your browser's), then you will see the option to vote on the poll lit up. Personally I gave it a vote of "It's Okay". I believe Diplomacy has the potential to be an "I love it!" vote, but it has not yet reached that potential. Here's hoping that it does! -Itharus

Personally I sit back and snicker while Nano Disassemblers 1-shot the LRF's and my Assailants butt hurt the enemy capital ship. Although occaisionally... that mofo Advent ship (I forget which one, I think it's the Space-Jalapeno) chain CC's my cap and eats my frigates alive. Boo. Listen to Blackhawk on the letting the cap enter into the well bit. In this game your acceleration is nerfed heading away from a planet and buffed when heading towards a planet. The Vasari Emp

The Vasari pacts are great for anyone who is an agressive player, to be honest. Their diplomacy ships are really nice too for anyone who's being hit (the health regen and invul abilities)... I only wish that I could use all that badass technology on myself instead of having to make a Vasari friend :-P. But... the dip cruisers are another thread, so I'll shush ;) Good guide, Pbhead! And holy crap Kitkun, I didn't realize it upped the bypass rate! -Itharus PS: I

Odd, I haven't noticed the AI being better at all. Do the cruel and vicious difficulty levels enhance it? I thought Hard was supposed to = full AI... I've noticed that the fleet pathing in Diplomacy is TERRIBLE! My fleets fly all over the grav well now, I don't know how the heck that got messed up. All in all, I'm less than impressed with Diplomacy, and while I am not an online regular - I will none the less be looking around for Entrenchment games for a while longer y
We're all playing the game intensely right now. It's a delicate thing and just as the pirates went back and forth during the original release, we will be revisiting how strong they are here too. What we want to avoid is the situation where players hire the pirates to attack an enemy and they merely serve as XP fodder for the target player.
So instead of mercenary attacks, have it be something more insidio

About an hour into a FFA test game they attacked where I had a Kol and 24 LRMs waiting. I got owned. Definitely not just free XP anymore.
Just wait. Two hours in they will rickroll your fully upgraded starbase and all supporting tactical structures - nuke your planet, and then sit there forever making it a pain in the ass to get the world bac

IMO the pirates are just ridiculously broken. If they were as good as all that, they would be the dominant government in the region, and the TEC, Advent, and Vasari would all be bitch slapped in every star system. This pirate crap is broken. Strong pirates are one thing... pirates turned into the thing chasing the Vasari is bullshit. Infact, I bet they could beat whatever that is, too. Pirates lack the infrastructure to be as powerful or more so than a faction... it's why they

I just bought Diplomacy the other day, and started playing today (Feb 8th, 2010), and I feel I have to chip in on this thread... I 10,000% agree that the pirates are absolutely ridiculous as they are. I always play on Hard difficulty when dealing with AI, and I don't know if that's making the difference or not, but neither do I care. The pirate "Heavy Cruisers" have as many or more HP than my Kortuls, and the dps output of a pirate raid is absolutely off the charts. I had a ra
