1. Your spending balance and spending amount sliders are tilted towards Tech and full, respectively? This isn't a problem I've seen...I usually stay ahead in the tech race fairly handily. 2. The actual tech picklist (i.e. the research tab) has detailed effects listed. After you've achieved the tech, the "archive" button on the same tab will display it. 3. Only that when you get 25% more, you'll actually see an effect. Pet peeve of mine, too. In the mid-late game, it make

Brad: not trying to defend Richard--he's being a pompous ass, pardon my Drengin, and you certainly didn't deserve a 2 star AI. I'm just having a hard time seeing how a (supposedly) broke race can get a couple of Constructors in a few turns, even via leasing them--it'd need a down payment, and I'm wondering if it got that down payment via the bug in question. I'll hush, though...I'm just glad you found the bug. ~SDC~

I dunno if I'd say "quite useful". The +10% attack bonus adds 1 point to a dreadnaught. It doesn't add (or contribute) a point to -anything- until the dreadnaught. I realize the +10% attack bonus isn't terribly expensive, but the +20% and +30% ones doesn't kick in until battlecruiser, at which time they also add 1 point. The possible exception to this is if the "half of defense" bonus is added in previous to the percentage calculation, at which point a battleaxe will see the +20/+30% bonuses

Brad: well, part of it is obviously a difference in terminology here. What's Tribute and what's Leasing? Regardless, my original point stands. You flipped a sign, and had a way for a race to mint free money, whether it was via "tribute" or "leasing" doesn't matter. Moreover, the AI's evaluation routines apparently used the same calculation, and -knew- they were getting free money. I'm asking if it's at all possible it was exploiting that, hence being able to buy stuff in short orde

Brad: actually, just occured to me. Leases were bugged. The AI apparently knew this (re: your statement in OH NO that it was accepted trades because they were good for it). Doesn't that mean the Vor might have been leasing Constructors or even money from other races left and right, confident that they were getting a larger treasury for doing so? Seems that if you leased money for money, that'd benefit both sides...would the AI have been "smart" enough to offer this kind of deal if it calcula

Hm. OK. I guess I haven't had a game go on long enough to get more than 5 or 6 routes yet (I mostly play small maps). I really don't like the fact that you can only ally with close races. There's such a thing as an alliance of convenience. I wouldn't call us "close" with UK, for a real world example. There should be such a concept as a military alliance with whoever it is that will benefit you. ~SDC~

You know, Leader just made a good point regarding the Vor's constructors. He'd just demanded their entire treasury (i.e. a N for 1 month tribute) Did it credit it back to them double? That would explain where they got the cash to crank them out. If that's the case then, well, it is a rather unfortunate and major 1.0 bug, and that would explain where the accusation of cheating came from. ~SDC~

Brad: out of curiosity, what qualifies as a "tough event" for those purposes? I played a Tiny game on Cakewalk, and -never- had a random event come up, even the planetfall ones. Not that I play on Cakewalk very often (or ever will again :) but that was a little bit of a bummer...you miss a lot of game flavor without the morality choices. ~SDC~

Oh, I'm quite aware that the AI could use the tactic, too. Again, right now there's a huge tech advantage, particularly for defenders (who get an attack bonus of a percentage of their high defense). It's just that when I group 5 corvettes and a couple of battleships, having them -all- die against one orbiting BattleAxe just isn't right, and that's fairly typical. ~SDC~

I'm with Vedric on the stack thing. I don't want a hugely complicated mechanic, but the way things are now, there's zero advantage to stacking whatsoever. Really, it should be something along the lines of all attacking ships do damage to the defender, whereas the defender picks or autopicks one ship to defend and do damage against. The defender's defense modifier could be rolled once and applied to all ships, or rolled once for each attacker. Not sure which would be more fair. If that weigh
