Red, mostly. I'd still like to know how to disable it (truly or effectively, doesn't matter which). ~SDC~

Brad: As an aside, while I certainly appreciate your presence here a great deal, having some tech support people around to answer technical questions might not, in fact, suck. I know there are a couple/few Stardock people around, but aside from Cari (who I'm not familiar with), they all seem to be R&D folks. Having a couple of lower-level people who can clarify game mechanics stuff would probably help a lot, and would lessen the expectations that people have that you'll swoop in Kibo-like on
Oh, also shows you their tech level. If it's on the right side, they have it and you don't. On the left? vice versa. ~SDC~
So has anyone else used the diplomacy interface as a way of doing some cheap espionage? After all, it shows you every home system, starbase, and ship they have whether you've discovered them or not. Seems a little cheap, nu? Maybe there should be a fuzz factor there. ~SDC~
I find it pretty plain as it is. "Earth has 100bc revenue and 300bc expenses, with 15bc maintenance" is pretty clear. I either assume that the treasury's getting sucked down, or that I have income from elsewhere. A quick trip to Domestic Econ tells me what I need to know. ~SDC~
does that mean I can somehow copy the neutral interface to good and evil? I don't mind the robot pictures, but after having just figured out all the esoteric icons, having a -new- set of esoteric icons didn't thrill me. :) ~SDC~
www.wincustomize.com, change it from there. It's the same as the GalCiv account. ~SDC~
Heh, nice. :) I would like to figure out (or if someone wants to just tell me, that's OK too) what happens to tributes/loans when a civ runs out of money. I know that planetary spending is disabled, but I'm unsure as to what happens to loan agreements. ~SDC~
That explains why a single orbiting battleaxe was screwing up my fleet of corvettes and battlecruisers last night. Funny thing was that I don't recall seeing that bonus displayed anywhere on the defending ship in question. ~SDC~
No, I'd use it even with a small penalty (provided it was very small). It'd be worth it to me to lose 10% of my cash-back so as to not have to always have something in the queue, particularly for social production. Eventually one runs out of 0-maintenance projects for a given planet, and most colony worlds don't need the costly improvements. As a side note, purchasing should probably be disabled for Wonders and Trade Goods. If it's to be the only one in the galaxy and hasn't been bui
I don't think trade routes increase in time in quite the way you mean. When you start a trade route, it says something along the lines of "this route averages 7bc a mo". What that ends up meaning is that the first month of the route it nets you 1bc, and the last month of the route it nets you 14bc. Barring trade upgrades via starbases or something, I don't think those numbers will ever change. The "getting bigger over time" factor is for the individual trade ship along the route--iow, if you
It has a very small effect, IME...couple of percent at most...but it's there. ~SDC~
hrm. OK. Well, I can say with relative confidence that that wasn't true at Normal AI difficulty. I'll try it at a higher level. ~SDC~
heh, cool. ~SDC~
Destabilization simply lowers morale. If you have espionage high enough to see enemy morale, you can see it go down/up as you raise/lower the slider. It's mostly good if your enemy has planets in a sector where you or an ally has a very strong influence. The combo of low morale + your influence might get a planet to defect. There are other nice effects, too, like senates voting your opponents party out of office, etc., but they're harder to track. ~SDC~
keep in mind that you can only move ships within a certain range from a friendly base/planet, but it should've told you if you tried to move out of range. Also keep in mind that clicking on a ship cancels the autopilot, so if you're double-clicking on the fleet thing to "see how they're doing", you're probably cancelling yourself out every turn. ~SDC~
The combination of your diplomacy skill and theirs does affect the amount of money per transaction. If there's enough difference to affect it, there'll be a parenthetical message to that effect in the "trading console". ~SDC~
Spru: sure, there is that ramification. Still, you can make a lot of money researching and licensing semi-harmless techs at the moment. ~SDC~
I wouldn't expect them to pay more, per se. I'd expect them to have a baseline price based on "we can afford it" and for them to otherwise turn it down unless you made it so cheap they couldn't pass it up. IOW, not so much that they'd pay more for having more money, but that you'd have to offer it at a steep discount if they were poor. ~SDC~

Go to www.wincustomize.com and edit your account from there (login first if you have to). It's the same account as GalCiv. ~SDC~
Actually, I get a bit bugged by the fact that -all- the races have USS ships. Takes away from the flavor a little, IMO. :) ~SDC~
Can't counter espionage, afaik. Destablization's just a negative mod to morale, so would be countered with propaganda or any of the morale/planet quality buildings. ~SDC~
Yeah, they're pissy about the "theory" techs. Everything else trades more or less as expected. They will give them to you, but they want like a starbase for them. Obviously, it's easier just to research them for a month or two. The funny thing is, they won't pay nearly as much for them as they will other techs...so much for valuable! :D ~SDC~
Just so I don't have to scour the boards looking for the post, what did he say? :) ~SDC~
