I feel strat games should, like Civ3, have many paths to victory that encourage MANY workable strategies and a richer gameplay
Did you feel Civ3 actually had many workable strategies? I didn't play it all that much, but simple military conquest always seemed like the only way to go at higher difficulties. Galciv is much more flexible than Civ3 in that regard, in my opinion.

I think there are far bigger exploits that need to be fixed than this one.
I thought you pirates might find this essay on parrot care to be useful, or at least amusing. http://www.theonion.com/3939/opinion1.html
Congrats, Theoden! Hopefully this will motivate Stardock to take another look at their anomalous score filter. Rick, I'd have to say I disagree. I do consider IP to be valuable for trading, and I use them for that purpose and see nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't mind seeing gifts of 1000 IP or so having an impact. It's only those single-point gifts that I object to. Tom Cadwell (a designer for Warcraft III) once said that a strategy game is nothing more than a series of inte
I play galciv at work on occasion, when I'm here really late. The flip side is of course that I'm often here really late. I know a couple people from Hawaii. Great folks, except for their tendency to groan about how much they miss being at home every time the temperature drops below 50 degrees.
I did, but unfortunately those Altarians got trapped in a corner and never expanded beyond their own system. (This was before I knew how to find out the locations of the other majors on the first turn using sector influence.) I didn't bother finishing the game. I've always intended to go back and play another, after making sure that the other civ had a decent start. I think playing against one pure evil civ probably would be the hardest possible game.
You can rationalize almost anything. Especially since we don't really know how these techs work. What is "the Dark Side," really, and how exactly does it affect your civilization in such a way as to increase your diplomacy? Unless you get a very specific answer to this you can't say whether or not a good civilization will be able to turn it to its own ends. Likewise for benevolence or any good techs, or the good or evil wonders. Since this is a far-future game it really doesn't matter w
I put an AAR of a single-sector game in the Maso strategies thread. Your start conditions are much harder than mine though.
Hopefully he will tweak away that 1 IP bug.
I'm glad it helped!
Tariffs! How very European. [Message Edited]
Thanks. I'm not gaaining ground though... that darn wombat just won't stay still ;)
Cotal, if you're feeling guilty about passing Ray, you could always rejoin the Fellowship ;)
I'm just wrapping up my game in exactly the same way. Fun!
Quickest way: comm theory -> universal translator trade cash for a transport invade Altarian planet, take Battleship technology. kyro's way is probably more useful though [Message Edited]
Also the AI doesn't make appropriate diplomatic adjustments to the value of starbases, trade goods, and so on, which are more valuable on larger maps since they affect more star systems.
Actually, what am I thinking. There's no way I'll have time to write anything over the next several days.
The whole site has been loading slowly for me (on university ethernet). I don't think that this thread is any worse than the rest. I don't object to starting a new thread--I just don't think it will be particularly helpful. Ray, if you do start one, are you going to put some sort of "summoning" or something like last time? Give us a bit of warning to prepare stories, if you do.
Do some think huge & gigantic are easier on maso than medium & large? Why is that?
:CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:
I seriously think Stardock will nerf diplomacy or at least make it more expensive.
Agreed. Frogboy mentioned somewhere (in the chat log maybe?) that he would like to revamp the diplomacy system from the current "value-based" system, so that the AI looked more at the value of a particular item to itself. A diplomacy nerf could easily be incorporated into that.
I had to go watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail (for about the 30th time).
I just saw Life of Brian for the first time last night. Those Monty Python people sure don't believe in nice endings.
We don't believe you. This admission is clearly part of some secret plan.
*salutes the Admiral*
Medium and large masos, very nice Rick! Those are the hardest map sizes imo.
A ban seems awfully harsh for you just having a little fun... a simple request to stop from whoever did the ban at Stardock would have sufficed, I would think. [Message Edited]
