There's sort of an ongoing story in this thread and a few others, which people are referring to as a MMORPG. The Fellowship at war with the evil Undead of the Canadian Star Federation and things like that. If you've played AD&D you'll fit right in. If you like, you can introduce yourself with some sort of fantasy character and you'll be woven into the story if you like.

I think the problem is that the starbases really are worth more on larger maps, because the bonuses affect more planets. The AI doesn't seem to adjust the trade value of starbases (or anything else for that matter) based on map size.

The more people you have, the lower your morale, due to crowding. Higher morale means population growth. So a high morale situation is inherently unstable--it leads to population growth, which leads to the morale going down. 54% is where is stabilizes. However, having high morale, even if it's just temporary, is a good thing, because it inceases population, which means more taxpayers and more soldiers. [Message Edited]

Good job Ray. I'm not sure I've ever had the patience to finish a gigantic map--so many stars, it drives me nuts. I've got a huge maso that's coming along nicely though. For my diplomatic style I've tried setting all AIs to demonic, and I'm finding it easier--when they're not fighting each other for alignment reasons it's easier to manipulate them all into fighting whoever is currently the leader.

Warning: the first four posts in this thread are obsolete. They were posted in April and BH's have since been nerfed. This may be a dumb question. Why do people refer to battleships as BB's?

A litle note for us maso players: you can demand money tribute from the I-league. I'll try it every time I come across a new minor now.

The general issues have already been addressed in various strategy guides, one of which is discussed here. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=74810#74839 You could also find a great deal of help by simply searching the forum. If you want specific help, you would get better responses if you describe how you played the game, so we could tell you why things went wrong. As it is, it is impossible to help you beyond extremely general advice, since I know nothing abou

Congratulations to anyone who deserves congratulations at this point in time. I hope you know who you are, because I certainly don't, what with all the rank shifting going on. Barry: Not sure if you know this already. For your total score, Stardock adds your scores and divides by the square root of the number of submissions (and then has some sort of aging algorithm added as well which probably doesn't affect you). So when you went from 1 to 2 games you went from dividing by 1 (square r

Pontius, you've really distorted my post (and my original post on this topic too I might add). Perhaps I was unclear, perhaps you misread, whatever. Ray's right, either we need to drop this entirely or take it to email if you care about the topic. My sense is that you don't, but anyway, it's up to you. [email protected] Edit: anyone else can email me there too anytime if you feel like telling me something privately. But that's my junk spam account so if you want

Well Pontius, you did seem rather worked up about the ladder idea for someone who was supposedly just giving a neutral third-party opinion. Phrases like "anti everything I believe in" and "pulled the wool over their eyes," along with your general tone of "well *I* at least am here to have fun" (which comes with the strong implication that the people who are currently discussing scoring are not) make the reader think you feel strongly about the issue. I think Ray was perfectly justified in wonder

In my last game I got 100 of them. At the time I was cleaning out the last vestiges of resistance in the galaxy with a fleet of Overlords, so it was completely irrelevant to the outcome. As for stacking bonuses. Since we know nothing about how space combat works, it's not totally unreasonable to assume that ships fight in such a way that they can't support each other.

Pontius: it is certainly your right not to participate in any system. However, I want to address some of your concerns. Most important is that I did not intend to be exclusionary. I tossed out the "top 100" idea in order to save work for the list owner. If every Joe User who ever submitted a game would go to get themselves an account on the other ladder, it would drive the list owner nuts keeping up with all the new accounts and the policing. If the list owner was willing to code some n
