Well I finished that 'good' game I mentioned, however I lost. (:( Think it was a bad omen, I'll stick to being evil in future, its what I'm good at... :HOT:

Hmmm, I've noticed kinds of recurring patterns in my games. Often I don't bother researching military techs early on, then either when the opportunity presents itself, or when I get threatened, I quickly research defensive tech up to sheilds and build a load of battle axes, min one per star system. Before that I manage to get by with a zero war fleet. If I end up in war, then usually those battle axes are plenty good enough for defense early on. The enemy just plows ship after ship
Welcome Lord Orpon, our Party TerrorStars are an open party, you don't have to be a member of our empire to hang out here, although of course, there are special privileges available to those who decide they do want to part of our cooperative... :HOT: And to answer GangofMao above, the PGC is about playing for fun. We use whatever methods we as individuals find the most fun. I only adopt tactics that increase score if they don't interfere with the way I enjoy playing. Its fun being
Ah, but how can a hedonist who finds great pleasure in mental exercise really think too much? Actually, I am currently playing my first game where all the controls have turned white. (It really hurt having to turn down a +35% PQ bonus in order to do it though.) I have to say though that I don't think I'll be doing it again, the screen layout looks sickening compared to the evil screen and the droids look really nerdy. And the soundtrack is no where near as cool as the evil
Anton looks up from his virtual notepad at the apparition in front of him. "Damn popup adverts, they're all over the VR Modules these days." he thinks to himself, "Can't help feeling that one was directed at me though. Oh well, the thing is I'm not really evil, it just looks that way when you place my morality on a dualistic linear scale." Looks back at his notebook. "Hmm, GROSS are looking for another franchise on one of my spacestations, well the others have been a success
Welcome Kevin! Sorry I've been away for a bit, I have certain business to take care of. Some of it has been doing some more serious research on history for an article I will put on the PanGaea site when I've finished writing it. In the mean time I have a few plans for adding some extra pages to the website, and Ambassador Eradicus has written a first draft of some prose that I still haven't had a chance to read yet. So we will be expanding our story and influence as we need to and ti
I don't know about changing files, wouldn't that cause my games to be anomalous or something? In any case, it would be nice to have a friendly interface on it...
Congratulations! However, it looks like we've been knocked back down to 23. I'm afraid I haven't been very active in the past week myself. Illness, partying and the research and writing of an article about pre-authoritarian civilisations, which will of course be relevent to our empire and published on the PanGaea website, have all meant that I haven't had time to play GalCiv! :SURPRISED: But don't panic, I plan to bring another galaxy under the intoxication of our party ban
It seems to me there is a conflict of interest between the general GalCiv playing masses (who seem to want more variety in the game to make it interesting) and the 'elite' few who can beat maso (who think improving the AI should be a priority). Stardock must have a difficult time balancing these two needs, alienate the former and they lose the majority of their players, and hense future income, alienate the latter and they lose the support of those most active in keeping the community alive...
Maybe it would be good if the penultimate module allowed the terrorstar to move, with only the final module allowing destruction and causing universal hostility. Or even a whole seperate sequence of modules that cause mobility, so that if you complete the TerrorStar without the finished mobility modules, then it is a sitting duck and totally useless (unless it is already adjacent to a star). Then using the thing causes universal war. (However, how would alliances work? I se
Well, I just finished a biggie, and RL is intefering with my plans this weekend. Have a fun conference to attend, and some overtime at work tommorow (normally I do a three day week, tues-thurs) due to urgent projects needing completion. I may have to leave the honours of this forthcoming victory to Senator Eradicus... :HOT:
Eris is the Greek Goddess of Chaos and Confusion. She was known to the Romans as Discordia. She was apparently the daughter of Ares. She is largely held responsible for setting in motion the chain of events leading to the Trojan war. However, in the 1960s to 1970s she mellowed out with a couple of Californians and started a movement called the Discordian Society. Fnord is a word that appears without explanation in her holy book, the Principia Discordia, mentioned above in this threa
Fnord are history. We've claimed the 23 spot and Eris smiles in OUR favour! Bwah ha ha ha ha ha! :HOT: Next stop, Imperia Galactica...
No! Not Yoda! Please! As for Rainbird, well she sure would be welcome here if she wanted, I for one have nothing against evil, as you can see by my average morality! The trick would be in keeping her though, she does seem to flit from one empire to another a lot. So first we'd have to throw a party of parties to entice her here, and then we'd have to make sure she had so much fun, she didn't want to leave. May have a score to submit tonight, nearly finished a gigantic gam
Heh! Thanks bakka! There's only the two of us here at the moment, so we won't likely be posting scores every day. But then that doesn't seem necessary to be a top 25 empire at the moment. May have a game tomorrow...
I dunno, I'm still new to 1.05, well to GalCiv in general really. I am enjoying it as it is. Theres probably a thread for this somewhere but what exactly is the plus side to 1.10A? Everything I've heard suggests that it makes my gaming style harder to play. High Maintenance on star bases and maintenance on constructors. I could probably handle that I usually have a massive surplus in economy from having a tiny warfleet. And I could always decommision/sell star bases I no longer need. Lower
Some weeks ago I suggested having several boards - flyweight, middleweight and heavyweight - instead of a single board throwing all difficulty levels in together.

I thought your suggestion was a good one. Filters for different difficulties so that someone could be Top under each. I think it would be impossible for anyone to dominate more than one of those filters.
I also think the idea is a good one. It wouldn't even have to replace the curr
Obi Wan Kenobi said...
Was that a cheap shot? Not sure I get the joke, but it looks like I'm moving up in the world.
I appologise if my collegue offended you Obi Wan, we are just a humble trade federation and have no wish to invoke the wrath of the mighty Jedi!
Aha! Congratulations Eradicus! Having a veteran on the team can only mean good things for the PanGaea Cooperative I'm sure. Thanks for the intelligence report bakka, is this signs of a temporary alliance between our two empires, or at the very least friendly status? I could always open up space on our PartyPalace TerrorStars for Evil Empire embassies if these intelligence reports continue ;)
Well done in getting us out of the immediate 'drop' zone. My challenging game didn't go too well, so I've had to abandon it. My other game is going well though, but its on a gigantic map so is taking a while. I am ahead economically, technologically and in population. My military is rather weak, but that is deliberate to keep my maintenance down, and I could easilly catch up with in a few rounds in case of war. At the moment I think I'm still only holding my own on the lowes
If Stardock go ahead with an expansion pack in Dec/Jan, there is a little touch that I personally would find very nice (and I'm sure I'm not the only one), and that would be for a couple of automatic naming lists. i) Star system naming list. This would mean that as you colonise new star systems the suggested name that appears for it would not be its default name, but instead the next available name from a pre editted list. ii) Ship callsign naming lists. This would work
No. Whatever it was, either... a) Stardock fixed it b) My laughter appeased Eris and she relented c) Both d) Neither, it was something else e) We'll never know. Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia! LOL Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Test to see if the same problem is still occuring on this thread...
The doldrums? Hmmm, I reckon its because I mentioned Eris in the PanGaea thread. Ssshe is tricksssy like that ssshe isss! I must laugh to appease her wicked sense of humour! LOL Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Hmm, I'll go back to the PanGaea thread and see if it still goes wrong there. I seem to be able to post fine here.
