I am a big believer in the Flylady.
That's a cute site! I don't think I have CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome). I just don't feel organized. The surface stuff is under control. It's the "stuff that can wait" that I feel lurking in the background. People don't see that stuff when they come over.
Too much giving, well, there's never too much giving.
I agree but I also feel, like pointed out earlier, there are many ways to give and the book has another secret that covers basically being kind. I think treating others as you'd like to be treated covers the whole "giving" part. What I took issue with was the notion of keeping some sort of balance sheet on giving more than you take. I think that idea would cause more stress than happiness. I agree that giving is re
Exactly, you have to walk the walk BEFORE you talk the talk.
My friend's dad always said "Practice what you preach or else you are just preaching instead of teaching".
I've already had a Dr. Pepper and cheetos for breakfast
Breakfast of champions! ;)
TW, as usual, sounds like you know exactly what I'm talking about. We have a friend that took a car load of stuff to sell for us on Ebay. I refuse to have another garage sale though! Garage sales are far more work than they're worth. I just take stuff to Purple Heart since it is right down the road and I can just drop it off as soon as I want it out of the house. Like you said TW, time is a huge factor. Today I have the hankering to start dejunking but I have XYZ that HAS to get do
Give it all away, and see if the book wasn't right.
You sure are harping on that. I give all the time FYI. When I do get rid of stuff, it goes either to people I know personally who can use it or it goes right to our local Purple Heart. I give clothes away constantly and have gotten rid of lots of stuffed animals (I don't know why people keep giving our kids huge stuffed animal!).
People give Christians a hard time about not being perfect. But the real reason we're not perfect is this same struggle - we know what to do, but we don't want to do it!
I think the problem is when Christians (or anyone else) proclaims what others should do but don't do it themselves.
I realized one of the reasons I feel so relaxed at our cottage...it isn't filled to the brim with crap! Our home is so overrun with stuff that it just weighs me down sometimes. I feel like renting a dumpster or calling a truck and having it all hauled away. I'm not a hoarder but I do have the curse of feeling that the moment I get rid of something I'll need it. I also feel guilt over getting rid of anything anyone gave me as a present. My husband and I have bee
Most of us know what is good for us. Knowing it and doing it are very different things. How many times do we say "I know I should exercise, but..." or "I know this pop isn't good for me, but...". We make decisions between knowing and doing constantly. I am addicted to coffee and chocolate. I KNOW that for a fact. I have tried to cut them out of my day before and am not convinced that my life will be good without them. I am aided in my addiction by s
Just reading your post made me think that hey even though I am having a hard time now, I still have little things to be thankful for time with friends etc.
I'm glad you got that from what I wrote. When I was growing up I would often complain about how my friends got expensive clothes or vacations and I didn't. My dad would then remind me that sure, there will always be people who have more but there are always a lot of people who have far less too. That thoug
Happiness has been a subject on my mind a lot lately. I have been taking a look at my days to figure out what made a "good tired" or a "bad tired" at the end of each. The things that seemed to lead to a good day are pretty consistent: -I got to spend time with my husband (especially if we ate a meal as a family) -I enjoyed some coffee in the morning -I enjoyed watching my children play and truly listened to their voices -I spent some time outdoors e
You just have to look at life differently when you have constant pain. It's not the end of the world, it just changes your life a bit.
That depends on the type of pain. I don't think any brain could take constant, unending, excruciating pain. I have constant lower back pain and almost constant sinus pain. I've learn to adjust to life with those pains but those are things you can still function with. I couldn't have managed to function with the dou
It helps you as much as it helps the cause.

I don't think that money has to be the only thing you give.
I totally agree with both sentiments. I guess if it was left as "give something back' rather than making it sound like some sort of balance sheet, I might have agreed. I think helping others can be the "something to look forward to" or, like Roy said, "something to be enthusiastic about". Look how many people do volunteer work once they r
It's really a secret because it doesn't make sense in this materialistic world, where we try to get as much as we can for us and then think about others.
I guess I'm more optimistic about people than you are. I think most people care about others. I just don't think everyone can or will do for others and I'm not sure that is a major impact of over all happiness. I think it is just as important and fulfilling to take care of your own so others don't have to. Too many
I was so afraid this was going to happen on vacation. Both of my boys had loose teeth and their tooth fairy always pays in gold dollar coins. Guess what I didn't have at our cottage! Luckily, noone lost their tooth until we were back home. My guys have a "tooth buddy". We got them at a craft show. They are tooth shaped stuffed pals that have a pocket on the front to put the tooth in.
I finally read a whole book! It was a short one but it was one full of impact. The book is called "the five secrets you must discover before you die" by John Izzo Ph.D. I'm a people person so this book truly kept my interest. The "secrets" are conclusions from hundreds of interviews with people who were nominated by people in their lives as being happy people. I really enjoyed reading about what other people think leadh them to happiness. I truly
Sorry to see you go. At least you didn't burn any bridges and proclaim that you'll never be back. You can always give it time and stop back by. Just as things have changed in an unfavorable way for you, maybe they will change in the future and attract you back. I haven't blogged much in a long time due to lack of time and too many distractions. Perhaps when school starts and I get back into a routine, I'll have more time to write. I'll be sure to check you
I was amazed at how much havoc she had created in such a short period of time, LOL.
I've been amazed by that with my children on many occasions. I'm also amazed at their ability to get bath water and bubbles to fully saturate a bathroom in no time flat. Ashley once had a bowl of oatmeal, I turned for a second, heard the clank of the bowl hitting the floor and simply couldn't believe the coverage she got with that oatmeal! I made the mistake of giving to one of the police/firefighter groups too. They called like crazy until I told them not to call again until my donation will be tax deductible. I try to be polite to door-to-door people but usually make it clear quickly that they need to shove along. Easy ones are the basement/siding/roofing people. I just tell them we just had it done or that we're about to move. My hubby is a sucker for door-to-door sales people especially if they are cute female col
I love seeing your pictures. Sorry I'm so lousy about posting any of mine. I think Izzy and Ashley would be fast friends. Ashley likes to say "ewww!" to everything also. Ashley turned 2 yesterday! I just can't believe how fast the time has gone by! Aren't girls fun?! Your house looks great and Izzy is beautiful. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and baby.
All three of mine were without medication. The first one I really wanted an epidural but I had a very new, very bad anesthesiologist who almost paralyzed me trying to get the needle in way too far up my back. I didn't have drugs but my baby had a very large head that got stuck and they used the vac to get him out. I had preeclamsia so they didn't let me move around much during labor and it really made things go slowly. The baby had problems getting enough oxygen at fi
And sorry to hear Jill's friend has relapsed.
Thanks Daiwa. I just have to believe that she's young enough for there to be time to figure out a new treatment. I can't imagine losing her so I won't let myself go there.
I was rattled by the news of his passing because I was looking toward him as an example of someone winning the battle. He grayed a lot during his treatments but still looked and sounded good. It is so scary how quickly things can change for the worse.
I was very saddened to hear the news that Tony Snow succumbed to colon cancer. He was only 53 and one of the best, if not best, White House Press Secretaries ever. Whether or not you agreed with his politics, he seemed like a truly nice, genuine person. His fate touches me at a personal level too because my longest, dearest friend is battling the same cancer. Hers wasn't discovered until it had already spread to her liver. Like Snow, the doctors were able to re
