I actually consider myself deist. I certainly believe that there could be a God but don't accept it as fact. We encourage our children to explore all religious beliefs and think about their own feelings on the subject. There have been plenty of studies to show that things are safer when law abiding people have guns than when only the criminals have them (which no law is going to stop). I agree with Cacto, things have seriously changed and it is a lot more complicated to fix most things now. I used to know how to work on a car before you needed a computer to do anything with them.
