Have you looked in the debug.err file? It should be in the drengin.net\galciv directory. Notepad or Wordpad should be able to open it. I doubt there is much info in there but it just might and give the developers more of an insight. When you de-install, do you go back and delete and directories that are left over, before doing the reinstall? Just a thought.

John Sherrill, Did I miss something or is the whole point of being part of the Alpha test is that you are prepared for lock ups, crashes etc. Saying you won't try something again is more likely to get you kicked out of the alpha testing than anything else. If you have a personal firewall then you need to disable it from what I've found to enable the submit process to work. Cheers,

Hi, In the diplomatic screens while talking to another race, I've several times been offered the chance to demand that race attack me. Isn't this a little weird?? Certainly seems like a very strange negoitiating stance to me. Cheers,

Is there a way to decommission a Colony Ship without launching it? It seems to me that the decommission button only works on ships that are flying around in space and not ones in orbit. It seems a real shame to keep paying maintenance on the ship or launch it with 10million+ people aboard just to destroy it. (I forgot about one and by the time I went to kill it, I would have had to launch over 100million into space to kill them off. Not something you really want to do.) <br

I might just be being paranoid but it seems that a Bank would have a very beneficial impact on the local economy. But to me it seems that the planet costs soar and you get no real benefit out of having a bank. I've started delaying building a banking center as a result and the cost base seems to remain much more reasonable as a result. (Not knowing what the cost of a bank is, as the Maintenance for all improvements is listed as 0, its hard to tell. Posted separately) Thanks,

HI, What is the difference between the two? I noticed that some improvements target Star Prestige and others Morale, yet there is no indication anywhere that I can see of the current Star Prestige nor what having a high Star Prestige might actually give you. Are they one and the same? If they are different how do you tell what a Star Prestige is? Thanks,

Hi, I noticed that the graphs, population in particular lag behind real time. I'm not sure if this is just a display issue or whether its intended. i.e. did you purposely set it to be a number of months behind real time so you can't tell immediately when someone launches a colony or transport? Thanks,

Is it just me or does GalCiv fail to survive a screen saver kicking in? It might just be me but my WinXP Pro machine has fast user switching enabled and it seems that if I switch users or my screen saver kicks in the game closes...possibly badly hence the difference in 'restore last civ' and 'load saved game' in my earlier post. Has anyone else seen this?

I had to do other stuff for a while and saved and closed Galciv :-( or so I thought. I went back in a while later and did 'restore last civ' figuring it would take me back to the saved game. It didn't. It left me several months back at the last time I exited the game. Using the Load Saved Game, (the crash aside if you do it while in a game), brought me back to where I was when I left the game, i.e. the several months in front of the 'restore last civ'

I didn't realize that morale had something to do with population growth..figures though. I've seen some planets starting with a base of 28, so plus soil, ~31, plus habitat would give you ~34, plus terraform would take you potentially to ~51. I've not seen a 51 but I have seen one around 38/42 area.

Talking about being able to see what you've already built, how about the ability to sell improvements, albeit at a discount to original construction price after all it is used. This way if you make a mistake and build something that costs an arm and a leg each month to maintain but don't have the budget to support it you can offload it.

At the time I was sure that each planet had done the same social project but shouldn't the score of two planets whether before or after social projects yield pretty much the same result? i.e. if a planet starts at 18 and does Soil Enhancement to get a score of 20, shouldn't the population on that planet be the same as the population on a planet with an original score of 20? When the original planet does soil enhancement to get a score of 22 then it would yield a higher populati

How does the little red number next to each planet work? As far as I can tell the number relates to how wonderful the planet is. i.e. a 28 or 32 planet is a godsend and you better get troops on it fast. But there seems to be little if any correlation between star systems. i.e. a planet with a score of 20 eventually grows to X population but another planet in another star system might only grow to X/2 while a third planet might grow to X*1.5 Surely two planets with the

Before you conquer a planet, with a transporter, the economic information, income/expense might say 9c, 8c, so profit of 1c. You throw your troops into the battle and when you've finished, the economic information on the summary page remains the same although the population has changed. If you then open the details of each planet, you find that the economic information is very different than was showing on the summary page. Exiting the detailed page for the planet and going back to the

Yes thats right the cost of all Social improvements is 0, until you build them of course when things like planetary defense cost an arm and a leg...so to speak. No the Esc button just brings up the menu, clicking the menu button advances the game one turn. I noticed that if you have to hit the turn button twice and it gets stuck, so you click on the star chart (somewhere other than the square thats currently showing), it breaks the turn sequence. the clock still advances but th

lets see if I can explain this: There are 9 positions a ship can be in around a planet, top left is 1, top right would be 3, the position to the left of the planet 4, the planet 5, to the right of the planet 6, and then the bottom row, left ot right, 7,8,9. Okay so, if there is a ship in position 9 and I try to move it to position 1, i.e. diagonal move bottom right to top left, the autopilot fails. Presumably the autopilot is trying to move through the planet I don't control and therefo

I've seen this as well. Too bad you can't capture technology for use civ wide when you take over someone else's planet. Of course if you're leading in research there isn't going to be anything to take but for those lagging behind it could be a nice boon. Remember Civilization? When you captured a city you got to choose which Technology you captured. Something like that would be nice. Give the leaders something to think about in a mass expansion if battleship or Avatar technology could b

I've seen this as well. Autopilot also fails to work when the Turn button doesn't work correctly. Wonder if it's related somehow. i.e. Click Turn and nothing happens, Turn button goes blank but thats it. Clicking on the star map (other than the area already shown) brings the turn back but the autopilot failed

BTW, is the install supposed to create a Start Menu, Programs, Drengin.Net\GalCiv folder and Icon? I meant to mention it awhile back but I didn't get one and use the start, run, to launch the game. Figure this is still on the to do list. (WinXP Pro)

Yes please fix the lack of submit screen. I've finished two games recently and never seen a submit screen. I get the screen at the end with the score board and the different scores by Military, Economic etc but thats it. After that it goes back to the start menu, Start New, Restore Last, Load Saved. Does a firewall make a difference? Is there some process that makes a call into the players machine for the test to see if you're on the internet? Just a thought. Thanks,
