Thanks, Cari! It's on its way. This is 1.03A. If there's more detail available with the version number, tell me how to get it and its yours. This is not happening on the trade screen.

As an added bit of information, I don't think whatever is causing this is under user control. I tried setting spending to zero, and just clicking through, and the same CTD happens. Also, while doing the reload-try and get to the next turn thing, I got a random event once. No change - a CTD on that turn.

I'm not sure what you mean by "trainers", but if you set the alien intellegence as low as it can go, galaxy size around medium, planets to common, and set tutorial mode on, and just play the game, it will provide a good training ground.

Well, golly gosh, I never had an invitation to join an Empire before. I should warn you, that I spend about 25% of my time in Europe. Maybe I qualify for the European Alliance instead. And what if I *do* want to get rid of slimy aliens? Now, if I can only keep the latest game from crashing every January, 2206, I can explain to the Drengin that exporting money from me earlier in the game was a very poor idea. Explain with a fleet of Overlords. Just because we midwesterners are polit

I think you're stuck with your past choices and their consequences. You can, of course, donate money to the Altarians. This won't, per se, improve your alignment, but it will improve your relations with them until you get enough random events to be considered good.

My latest game shows up in the Metaverse as having an "Anomalous" Metaverse difficulty. This is what it shows: 4/28/2003 (1.031000) Morality: Pure Good Galaxy Size: Huge Difficulty: Anomalous Win / Lost: Win: Beyond Human [score] 0 This is with 1.03 straight out of the "box" - i.e. no mods of any sort. The one odd thing was that I had the Drengins and Yor at "Normal" and everone else at "Subnormal". I had 4000+ points on the screen. Any ideas what this means?

Why would capital ships be necessarily slower? That's certainly not necessarily the case with today's Navy. And why shouldn't more technologically advanced ships be uniformly better than the older ones? Isn't a modern destroer uniformly better than the sailing frigate USS Constitution? And as for why anyone would build less technologically advanced ships, there are two reasons - money (both construction and operating costs) and flexibility: I can place two frigates in two dif

Twisti, I've seen the same thing with the aliens. The evil Drengins have managed to research Hyperwarp. I know it's them, because nobody else in the galaxy has it.

I apologize if this is a duplicate - there are 434 messages in this thread and I admit I didn't read them all. The Drengins just colonized a planet 11 sectors away from their own (12z12 galaxy, and they drove all the way from the top left corner to the top right). No Starbases nearby (at least 6 sectors in any direction), and they don't have any of the gravity techs. It appears they are not subject to ranges. The Torians also colonized a planet far from their core worlds, but I can't

T-Man/Atholbrose - I am not using Proximotron. So it can't be that. It seems to be exactly what Atholbrose said. If you tell SDC to use "no proxy", it will use whatever proxy is set up for IE. (In my case, it pointed to a server that no longer physically exists, but since I never use IE, I never noticed.) If you want that to be SDC's behavior, fine - but you should be explicit about that.

David- The problem seems to have been solved (at least for me) on another thread. The problem was that the proxy configuration in SDC is not right. It uses whatever Internet Explorer is set to use, seemingly irrespective of what the SDC configuration is.

I have the same problem as David Schapira. When I fire up Stardock Central, it comes up with a "Create Stardock Net" account. I fill in everything, click submit, and instantaneously it says, "Fails to Update Account Information". There is no sign of anything having gone over the net. If I "skip", I get a complaint that without logging in, I can't do anything. If I then "skip", I get to the main Stardock Central page. If I go to Tools/Register Products and enter my serial n

How does one know when one has "cheesed out" or not? If I offer one trade good and four techs for a planet and the AI says no, and then I offer two trade goods and eight techs for two planets and the AI says yes, have I invoked the cheese clause or not?

If you randomly pick an alien's civilization's alignment, while the screen shows intelligence as "normal", the blurb below ("let's all take a nap") might be appropriate for some other intelligence. Seems to me that indicates a mismatch between how intelligence is stored internally and the setup screen.

I had a similar experience - I had everyone on average, and I had some fools and idiots in the mix at game end. Judging by how easily the average civilization overwhelmed the other four, it might have been correct. If it makes a difference, I set the alignment of everyone except the Drengins to random.

A random process can have the same outcome twice in a row. (For example, roll a die over and over, and you will see the same number show up twice in a row about one in six throws). So what you are really asking for is that this NOT be random.
