Do you get benefits for having multiple star bases in a signle sector? For example, if 10 trade routes go through a single sector, can you build 15 starbases all loaded up on trade modules and get bonuses from all of them? /ds

FWIW, I'm on a Win98SE box and have yet to have a metaverse post. I haven't tried the new DLL and exe, but will give it go shortly. /ds
Well, I haven't gotten it to work in 3 games. FWIW, my GalCiv box is on my local network and being NAT'd through my linux box. I'm going to run tcpdump on my next submission to see if data is actually trying to _go_ to the metaverse. /ds
I have a starbase 5 tiles away from a planet, but it is a different sector. Do modules that give a bonus to "nearby planets" apply across sectors? In short, what does "nearby" mean? /ds
It seems that the fog of war might not be working correctly. For example, I can keep my harassing ships out of harms way, watch the defense shield appear on a planet (in the fog), move in and attack. Shouldn't have I have to patrol to see that kind of information? /ds
AI and Reasons The AI knows why it is grumpy (or happy) with you. It would be nice to have them give their one of their top beefs as a reason for demanding tribute. For example, "Your starbase USS Homer in 0.3 has too much culture impact on our people. Give us ... to let us overlook ..." Presently I find that I don't know why the AI decides to come after me. It makes it feel random, although I'm confident it is not. /ds ~SDC~
> There appears to be a bug involving Trade Routes. Did your trade route get attacked? I've noticed that my trade routes will get attack, and a dialog pops up saying they are abandoning the trade route due to losses. However, I can't create a new trade route after that. /ds
In one turn, went from 86% cultural to 21% cultural. Also, ships that could move around (like a scout ship) could no longer move--to far from starbase or planet. Quit, reloaded. It's OK now. I've noticed that on reloads the cultural minimap is off, as well as the culture in the sectors. In fact 6/25 have no color associated with them. In two turns or so it resets itself to me having 86%. /ds
Giving a ship to another civilization when it is in a "mode" maintains the mode text. I have an Arcean ship flying around that says "Sector Sweep" underneath it because that is what it was doing when I sold it. /ds
I ended a turn and the game quit to desktop. I autosave every turn. Upon reloading the autosave (after a reboot), the game loads and then the following happens: 1. The galaxy overview report is garbage. You see the graphic of the robot, but there are no words except for 'est' everywhere. It almost looked like the tech screen. 2. When you click 'DONE' and it shifts to the galaxy map, the entire map is RED (as in 0xff0000). I then quit
While one of the big claims of the game is that the AI is "as human as possible", it can do diplomatic options that we cannot. Admittedly, I haven't gotten way far into the game so maybe I"m missing a tech or two, but here's two examples: Tell CivA that you are giving it X for war against CivB. Tell CivA that you want to work covertly against CivB. The point is that the AI can do what the human can do and vice versa. /ds ~SDC~

I had my first lockup (no CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK response). A minor civ. initiated negotiations. After I was "Done" with them, another minor civ. immediately popped up for negotiations (no transition screen). I clicked on "Done" and the game froze. /ds Win98SE / DirectX 9 / GC 1.01.029 + BP 1.0.002
I didn't realize there was an indicator. OK. I'll try to pay attention to that. /ds
For the life of me, I can't figure out what the civilizations will take to do something. I spend too long clicking and resubmitting various combinations of goods, planets, etc. to try to bribe them in to giving me something, or helping me in a war. A "want" would be to add something similar to Civ3. "To give me X, what would you require?" /ds
"There are rumors that the ALtarian Republic are conducting a campaign of sabotage and destabilization. Their government denies this, but our intelligence says the evidence is mounting." Is this against my civilization? I assume it is, but the message _right_ before this one says they are in war with the Yor. /ds
Does starbases have to be in a sector to affect nearby civilizations, or can they just be in your adjacent sector to work? /ds
Oh yeah, that was it. I thought that it was part of the BP. Thanks. /ds
I don't see anything like that.
Howdy. I've registered in SDC my retail version. The GalCiv applications appeared on SDC. I installed the Bonus Pak. When I run the game, though, I can't find the MP3 player. I went under "Menu" and don't see anything related. Did the patch get installed? How can I tell? /ds
FWIW, after the galaxy transition completes, the screen goes black and DDHELP crashes. One of these programs is either interferring with the game, or the game is interferring with them. Note that I haven't had problems with my current (well, "recently departed") suit of games. The "suspects" include: Trillian, Desktop Architect, and/or Motherboard Monitor Cheers, /ds Win98SE / DirectX9 / GC+BP
Is there a way to change the gamma levels on the game? The Arcean Empire is just a couple of green dots.
How did it hit just games/ and not any of my other directories? Is it because it is first alphabetically? (That would be really weird). /ds
Yeah, called Stardock. And I run a virus scan every night at 4:00A. Secondly, I played NWN last night, in my games/ directory. Quit. Updated to SDC .99a. Noticed that C:\*.* was gone. Recovered C:\, not paying attention to the total sub-directory count. Installed SDC .99b. Went to sleep. Went to work. Bought GalCiv from EB. Came home. Installed GalCiv. Noticed that I had to reboot. Went to check how big its footprint was. Noticed I had 16+GB data free on my hard drive.
I installed to c:\games\galactic civilizations\ and 16 GB of my games, saved games, mods, patches, etc. was totally wiped out. (Then again, it could of been SDC .99a I can't be sure). Be careful where you install this game. Sufficed to say I'm pissed. ~SDC~
