I'm not saying that population levels are not a cause for concern - environmental issues such as the global fish shortage would be a lot less pressing with fewer people eating them - but I do think that if and when we're in a position to export a significant proportion of humanity to other worlds, we'll have had to sort it out one way or another already.
#65 by Citizen Ginata el bohemio - 1/8/2004 8:54:06 AM Nastavnik . . . thanks. Well put . . .Anyway to carry on with the original and rather more benign theme of PQs. I had a 61 PQ in my last game . . . I find it hard to imagine what a planet more beutiful than Earth at it's best would be like?Technicolour clouds? Rivers of Gingerale? Insects that tickel you all over for no other reason than to make you giggle? Gravity that doesn't kill you if you fall off a giant sparrow on your way to
Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhh I just wrote the longest post in my life, and IE had a CTD. All lost, my beautiful prose, solid arguments (but no hard proof, sorry). All lost :sniff!: :sniff!: And no time to start over. So I'll just summarize myself, just for you maxti. I don't know what you would accept as proof. Apparently, you consider everything that has been said here and studies quoted to be propaganda. And where in my post have you seen the word p
I believe it was Hitler who first said that if you repeat a lie often enough it will become the truth. If all you are doing is echoing, are you sure you are not echoing a lie? Isn't it your responsibility to be sure?
Maxtipherous I won't comment on your bringing Hitler to this discussion. :sniff!: He and his "friends" said many other things none of which are relevant here (or anywhere else), your implicit comparison is insulting. Usually that happens just prior to p
All I know about the save game issue is what David Ennis said:just like me she sent me in a email a test exe to fix the save game troubles in AP and it now lets ya load the save games whoopie
Thanks for that PJ. So there IS still hope.
#213 by Citizen David Ennis - 1/7/2004 9:48:54 PM yes theres a fix for the save game goof in AP and Cari's is gonna try to talk Brad into posting it tomorrow so everyone can get it and yes it works fine for me
<
He was talking about the Altarian Prophesy expansion beta, which saves games in a completely different format (and then fails to load them, so I hear).
PJ, do you mean there is a fix for an unloadable AP save? And if there is, can I download it from somewhere? (I started an AP game, but cannot continue (:( ) Anyway, I guess we'll soon have the next version, :) ~SDC~
By the way, something similar happened to me on my third game (submited too) ~SDC~
by Citizen CapitalShip - 1/7/2004 2:59:06 PM I think I got carried away with paying the Altarians to attack everybody. Bascially my initial plan was to ally with them and pay them to attack everyone, then I could get a diplomatic victory. What I failed to do was check to see if they were allied with Torians (which they were). It was Me, Torians and Altarians as last majors. I was allied with Altarians and just needed the Torians to ally so I can win. I could not figure out why I coul
By the way, did anyone ever get around to reading those articles from Scientific American that Maxti and I were disputing?
Vincible: I have been reading it. Specially the one about the "Maverick meteorologist" (:SURPRISED:). The legend under the photo summarized well his atitude towards the problem: "What he would do to global warming research if he held the federal purse strings: cut funding. "You would no longer have vested interests in the problem re
It depends on your star frequency. If you play "abundant" maps its much more common than if you play "rare."
That's true. i only play uncommon & rare
don't know if there's enough off-topic threads around here to justify a new forum for them, though...
I agree with this. I saw very few off topic threads in here. Maybe 3 or 4 that I remember of, in the last months. And sometimes one can get a little colorfull and heated like the environmental one. Or just a refreshing change, like the one about mars. I don't think that would discourage new people who comme over here with questions about the game. Specially since wh
I only had another habitable planet in Sol system once or twice, in all my games. But then, I don't ctrl-N.
Prime Minister Lord Megatron
That's a promotion! Congratulations, Sir! :) ~SDC~
First we send those little algae to Mars, which then transform it's atmosphere slowly towards more O2. Then we send robots which will start to built a habitat for us.

(more CO2, greenhouse effect), then go the algea to transform CO2 into O2
Haven't I seen something like this in a movie a few years ago? I just mention it, because in the movie almost everyone died ... ;) As for prospect for teh future, I think we're closer to getting
I had a special case in a recent game. I was a bit behind everyone, and they all (except 2 that disappeared due to the foundamentalitst) got allied (i've never seen it before): alexians, carinoids, drengin, altarian, arcean. Each one allied with everyone else. Except me, allied with noone, and thus in not a very good position.. I that game I had decided not to get allies in order to avoid the multiple wars that never end (peace with an ally but not the other, so back to war next tu
In only one of my games did a minor became the dominant power. But since they were fundamentalists, I guess it's an exception. On the other games, by the time I catch up the AI (in population, & research) I have to help the minors stay alive against AI attacks, so that I can transfer my trade routes to them, when they become available because I attack some other AI. Then if the minor is really getting crushed, when they have only 1 or 2 ships left on their planet, I invaded, just prior
Ginata, I'm in France (but I am actually a brazilian). However my wife is Russian, thus my nickname :) ~SDC~ But my russian is limited to my nickname and a few other words, and my polish, well, I just know enough to think that what you wrote was in polish :) [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
Back to serious mode for a moment:
Off of the off-topic for a moment: I have been trying to figure out how to quote--can't do it. I know there is a thread buried somewhere that would answer this, but I'm lazy. Any one?
(I quoted you just to show off ;) ) You just select the text you want to quote, and then click the "Q" button, on the left, in the line just under the rank or empire of the person/post you want to quote ~SDC~
Nastavnik, what would be so bad about Bill Gates not being able to come back?
Ginata asked why he wouldn't launch himself, to what I gave my opinion. I suggested we send him up. I f we use his systems & software, we shouldn't hear from him in a long time! ;) ~SDC~
The pleasure is mine Ginata. My day is just starting, and I needed that too to get to the end of it!
its been a long day I needed that . . hehe.
We must be at opposite sides on the globe! ~SDC~
EEC = European Econimic Community . . . hehe sry bout that.
Sorry, it was a stupid question. I just got used to EU now. (I live here and haven't used EEC/CEE (french version) in some time now :) .
Why doesn't Billie Gates lauch himself into space . . . godness knows he has the cash to do it solo . . . ?
Because there would be so many bugs in the system he wouldn't get back down here. ;) Wait! Let's send him up there ;
Yes, that was what I was asking, thanks. Hey don't you want to join us as the Empire of The Light?
LOL ~SDC~
In my current game I have a new CTD (new to me): there is a resource (pink I think), probably one of thoses that you grab with the survey ship in the begining (except I'm near end game), that I've just noticed. Everytime I click on it I have a CTD (had it yesterday, and today just checked twice in the autosave that it was still happening). ~SDC~ Correction: it was a Carinoid cargo ship (one of the tiny ones) -- I just saw it destryed by the altarians. [Message Edited]
And finally at what level does the AI have access to all of its subroutines?
I think I remember, from a long time ago in a frogboy's post (by the time they improved Altarians), that from bright and up the newsubroutines would be activated. But that was for altarians. Maybe from the next level up (after bright). But this is just some 65% wild, 35% educated guess :) ~SDC~
EEC
What's that? (I'm Brazilian; and certainly would like to know who has been sabotaging me this whole time ;) ) ~SDC~
