Ok, more info. Weird thing - went back and looked at the influence sector by sector for several sectors scattered around the galaxy. My influence in every sector was in the 9 to 10 digit range (!!!). No other race had more than several hundred. In addition, when I called up influence in my racial stats for the history, my influence chart was flat. Same for the influence filter on the main screen where you can see trends for things - research, military, etc. Influence was flat across the bo

You know the screen where you pick your game - new, saved game, continue, etc.? Frogboy, is that supposed to be Earth behind the space station? If so, then your map is screwed up - it's reversed and upside down. You can clearly make out Turkey/Asia Minor, the Caspian Sea, the Eastern Med - but they're upside down and backwards - north is south, and east is west, etc. Intentional or not? Do I get a prize for noticing this? :) Grifman

I'd like more information, specifically understanding the components of economy, production, research and morale . . . For example, I have morale of 66%. How did I get to that number? Some base number, plus bonuses for a stadium, a news network, etc. less minuses for ?. The same goes for production. What's my capacity - x% for a mfg plant, y% for fusion plant, but x and y% of what? And of course the same goes for research and economy. I'd like more info. Another thing - h

Ok, it appears that I won by cultural influence - at least until I took the last AI homeworld in revenge for their bloody war against me :) One moment I looked like I was doomed as a massive Altarian fleet was assaulting my systems - the next thing planets from all 3 remaining races were literally flocking to join my empire - Torians, Yor, Arceans, and Altarians, 3 to 6 systems per turn! Until most were down to less than 3 systems! Problem is, I don't know what I did to warrant this.

Sorry about that, I've been having trouble trying to post the last two days, and got tired of cutting and pasting my post in only to have nothing happen. Grifman

Ah, ok, that must be it. I also "spend my money" into dust at the beginning, but admittedly don't watch it like I should apparently. I think that is the problem. I'll start over and watch it more closely and see if it happens. I'll post here so Frogboy will know if everything is ok. Thanks for the responses, guys. Grifman

Does the AIs ever activate diplomacy other than to declare war? I've never had it happen. The game would be more immersive if they were. I always remember dreading hearing the racial music in MOO - I never knew whether it meant something good or bad. And is my memory fooling me - did AIs in MOO approach you to trade stuff? I think they did, but I can't remember . . . Grifman

I understand it's purpose, but I don't understand how it works in certain situations. For example, playing beta 4, I've got 4 planets colonized, two with very good morale, 70+, a couple around 5-60+, with a Republic govt. Then I colonize one more planet, and boom, everything goes bust. The new planet is at 20+, the others drop probably between 10-20+ points. The next planet I colonize is at 0 morale! So what the heck is going on? It seems like if I get more than some magic number o

These are some things I wish for . . . 1) As it stands now, there are too few planets too colonize. Based upon what I've seen, probably 50% of systems are uninhabitable. I don't have a problem with that initially, but there should be techs that allow you to colonize other planets. And no, upping the number of habitable worlds isn't the same thing. I want to have to discover the appropriate tech - not have it handed to me on a platter :) One of the great feelings in MOO was

Any way you can get my civs stats on the same page as the stats for all the other alien civs. I naturally want to compare mine to theirs, but have to go somewhere else to look. It's a bit of an unnecessary annoyance :) Grifman

Yeah, I've played - and loved EU - and I like how it handles for. As for saying that there are too many examples of imperialism being good, well name one :) Maybe you can find examples of "good" empires occassionally in history, but most totalitarian govts - and an empire is one - are not. Total power leads to abuse of power and corruption because there are no checks and balances - it is the nature of the beast. I'd also add that most likely any "good" empires you name will have exis

You guys spend at 100%?!? Doesn't that just kill morale? I've never spent that much - then again, maybe that is my problem. And to the person that asked, I played as the Federalists and the Populists. Kind of like the Populists best as it is easier to keep morale up. And I've always traded tech for tech, never money, either . . . Thanks for the tips, but I'd love to here more strategies. Grifman

Ok, did better last game. I was the last ones standing against the Yor tidal wave sweeping the galaxy. My high point was subverting my neighbors the Drengin, splitting their empire, and taking one of their worlds :) I do research all right, morale is fine too. But getting an economy running - making money - seems to be difficult. I certainly don't have the cash the AIs seem to have. So I'm curious - do people rush to trade routes? What beginning build ques do people use? I like t

Ok, here's something that confuses me. Stuff like Love Mushrooms or the Translators or the Tri-Strontium Steel. Are these wonders or trade goods. I believe it says one per galaxy, but then you can trade them. I find that confusing - I still don't know the nature of these items or how they count. Grifman

A few points I would like to add, since I started the topic: 1) I agree, pacifism does not equal good. However, IMO, neither does unprovoked agression. As you say, good and evil should be clear - and it appears to me they are not. 2) The issue is not "predictability". If you want pure unpredictability, you can get it by rolling the dice with the other races at the beginning. The issue is consistency. "Good" races shouldn't attack each other without good reason. Example,

Ok, evil is alot more than deciding to kill a few sea creatures or tearing down some ruins. What about unprovoked wars and attacks? The Altarians are supposed to be good - but they just launched an unprovoked war on me - how can that be good? I think actions such as this should count far more on the good and evil scale than seizing an unidentified ship orbiting one of your planets. Does the game factor things like this or not? Grifman
