Posted these in another thread, but wasn't on topic and kinda got lost. Two things I have noticed in my current game. I am most curious about the second item. *The Acrean went to war with me and there was no warning screen. *I control almost the entire galaxy with influence and yet planets are not defecting. I didn't think about this too much until I saved one time in the middle of my turn. The next time I played and loaded up the saved game, the first screen to pop u
Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them? Scott
Ted- I don't think this is the case. Right now in the game, I do not have many or any ships on autopilot. Most of my ships are in orbit or next to an enemy planet. I just invaded a system and had to wait upwards of 30 secs for the screen to clear. Scott
United Planets voted to improve constructor movement rate by adding booster to increase the movement by +5. Not only did this increase my constructors movement, all my ships now have a movement of 16! Also effected all alien ships. Isn't the bonus supposed to apply to just constructors? Scott
Brad- What are the specs of your machine? My main problem is not the amount of time that it takes after clicking the turn button, but the time you have to wait after having one of the following happen- *invading a planet and clicking ok *an event screen pops up and clicking ok *upgrading a starbase and clicking ok After clicking the ok button on any of these events, there is a pause of about 30 seconds or more. There is no indicator, such as a cursor
Ted- Let me clear up my "jump" statement. I realize that the computer just can't go from point A to point B without going throuhg the individual "squares." What I've been noticing is that the computer seems to be taking the same amount of time moving my ships as if I were watching them, which I am not. When I see AI ships move off screen (mini-map) they zip across the map. Right now in my game my ships are moving VERY SLOWLY wether I watch them or not. I would t
There are a couple of issues with DGM and I was wondering if these might be addressed before the final release of GalCiv. I assume there will be much more use of DGM when GC is released. I say this for two reasons. 1) The seti@home program conflicts with DGM. This has been noted in some previous posts and I have observed this myself. Not sure why though. 2) I was trying to DL GalCiv at work today (Slow day!) and it would not DL unless I disabled most of the back
I can understrand the slowdowns on a gigantic galaxy. I expect turns to take a while to process in large games with lots of units. What I am curious about is slowdowns that occur at other than expected times and can this be changed. Right now I am in the late stages of a game with a gigantic map. I have a 900mhz with 512MB and a GF4. I am seeing significant slowdowns in the following situations- *After making an upgrade to a starbase *After clicking the OK bu
Eladamri- There is no rule that says betas must be open to everyone. Companies can do betas in any way they see fit. Some do open betas and some closed. An open "free" beta might be a good idea to test out something like an online games that stresse network and server performance. There is no need for that with a game like GalCiv. If GalCiv did have an open beta, I think some potential customers would have become disinterested or frustrated with the game during some of the earlier
I brought something like this up a couple months ago. It does seem to get a little confusing watching all the combat take place and not knowing for sure where it is or which ships are involved. Part of the reason is it happens rather quickly. I am also having a problem where the focus of the main screen changes to another battle a split second before the results of the last battle are shown. I have to check the mini-map to see if my ship icon still exists. When I brought t
If you have Seti@Home running, close it. It is known to cause problems with the Drengin Game Manager. Is there going to be a fix to this? Scott
Same problem here. Scott
Noticed a small bug. This will happen if you have a trade route that sends a freighter directly through your starbase. If can not upgrade the starbase when the freighter and starbase occupy the same space. The constructor will just stack on top of the other two without giving the option to upgrade. Was confused by this until I notice the freighter moving off of the starbase during the movement phase. Game is looking good! Scott
I had this problem too. Someone else mentioned that if you have Seti@Home running DGM won't work right. I was skeptical, but disabled Seti and then I didn't have any problems. Strange. Maybe check to see if you have anything running in the background???
Update to last post- The December Auto-save turn takes about 8 seconds for me. Scott
So far looks pretty good. Love the gigantic galaxy! :CONGRAT: I do notice that the autosave (Dec turn) takes a lot longer than it used to. I was wondering if it is supposed to be like this or if anyone else noticed this change. Scott
Two more things to add. 11) It has been mentioned before- When bringing up the planet or ship list, I would like a mini-map to be able to see where the planet/ship is that I click on. I think this is very important when deciding what production you are going to make for a planet. 12) I am curious as to if anyone finds the turn summary box at the bottom right corner useful. If so how do you utilize it? I feel this space could be better used somehow. I end up ignoring it d
Here are a few of the things I have noticed so far- 1) Was trying to take over an enemy planet with a fleet. The fleet had one battlecruiser and 3 transports. Clicked on the planet for the fleet's destination. Once the fleet got to the planet the battlecruiser was destroyed and a dialogue box came up saying my ship could not reach it's destination. After clicking OK, the same screen would reappear over and over again (tried about 50 times). I could not do any other action
I would like to see this also. Along with it I would like to see a "Star Density" option. By this I mean having many stars clustered together in big groups, or fewer stars very spread out.
I am having troubles connecting with DGM. It has been asking me to register. Then it is unable to connect. The one time it did connect, it did not give me the option to update GalCiv to Beta 4A. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
I thought I'd bump the above topic, as I am still curious as to if this is possible or if anyone else is interested in this idea. The thread seems to have gotten lost after the flurry of updates recently. Another topic I had brought up before with not much disscusion on- When selecting random intelligence for the AI, I feel you should not be able to determine the outcome at least until encountering them in the game. As of right now, when you select random, you still see the
Had a crash and Smart Exception detected the error. However, when I opened the log, it was blank! Does this sometimes happen? Seemed kinda odd. The crash occured while I was watching my survey ship move after clicking on the turn button. I think it was about to explore an anomoly.
Here's another one. Nothing special going on. When selecting an area to research, I would love to see the bonuses that you get from the advances in the tech area you are researching. For example; Let's say I was about to research Industrial Threory. The advance I get from this is Manufacturing Center under Social Projects. I would like to be able to mouse over (or something??) the words Manufacturing Center and see that I get a +25% to manufacturing. This would make choosing research areas more interesting and
